What do people want to see in porn?
There's a hell of a lot of crap video porn out there. It should be better, it's not difficult to do - but for many reasons it isn't
1) porn makers are talentless 2) it's cheaper to make crap 3) if all you want is naked flesh and penetration, then that's all you get, no trimmings 4) nobody knows what anybody really wants 5) it's a rapidly growing almost legitimate area now, and so it's diverging faster than it's converging, so it's spread thin on effort. I have a question: What do people really want to see? Plot? Character? Humour? Production values? Variety? Are we happy with the status quo? What do guys want, girls want, couples, straight, gay, bi, multi, fetishes, etc etc etc. I know we don't typify the cross-sections of humanity here, but we don't do too badly, and it's a start. I wanna know what gets you off. because I'm gonna make it for you

Fuck the storylines, fuck the acting, fuck the comedy.
No pun intended, of course. I like porn that I know is real. In a lot of porn, you can tell that the guy is barely hard and the girl isn't enjoying herself at all (and I REALLY hate when the moans are dubbed in afterwards). However, my tastes tend to lean towards the bizarre... and I've always been a bigger fan of written porn, anyway.

Of course I won't get a consensus view. I'm not stupid.
I just want to know what people want to see - if the status quo is fine, or if people want changes and higher production values. Porn is unique in that it's very visceral, and usually not analysed too closely. People generally just want to get off on it. But that's part of its stigma. Imagine a porn movie that's got TV movie production values but with real sex in it! Do we want that? Is it worth pursuing the making of it? Would there be a large enough section of the buying public out there who would pay for that rather than what's already out there? Do we even know what we want? I am a champion of plots, of putting the extra effort in to make it worth watching, to have an actual story and characters we can relate to. But the practical aspects of achieving that in porn are quite a challenge to overcome: Actors don't do porn, porn stars don't need to act. Money doesn't grow on trees. Porn has a stigma that limits where and how you can make it, and who with. I want to know if it's worth that effort.

Things not liked by me in porn:
-"money shots" esp anytime the face is targeted -Skanky looking dudes with absurdly sized equipment (I'm thinking "ow!" and "ew!" vs. "oooooh") -What I call "biology shots" where is where they somehow zoom waaay in close on the penetration occuring. Yes, I am fully aware of how the body parts interlock, don't need an anatomy lesson. -awful lighting making everyone look *even* uglier (if possible). -Women (and men) looking totally bored with whatever's happening. Things desired (hehe) by me in porn -Normal looking men/women with normal sized apparatus -decent lighting so everyone can look at least semi-attractive. -a little humour would be nice. -people pretending to enjoy themselves and/or be interested in what is happening. -NO "squelching" type f***ing noises. gross. -an actual story, but really its a bit much to ask. Like 90% of erotic stories can't even manage this. Here's an idea -- how about making films of some very good erotic stories?

I would love to see a porn with some kind of story. A sort of erotica and 'hard core' mix. I hate the current selections to which I've been exposed. My personal favorite that has come as close to an erotica theme was called "Night Trips 1 (and 2)". There should be more with that kind filming (scenes go to balck and white, no money shots in the face.....etc). I, too, am interested to know if people are content with the current style. Wouldn't mind a little Alan Ball cinematography. Do I want too much?

Okay, I'll tell you what bugs the crap out of me about what's out there now. Two things, really, but they're connected.
One, the guys just don't really seem into it. I like the M-F stuff, but I also like the M-M stuff and it's very distracting when the guy is trying to get up any kind of rhythm or thrust with what amounts to a wet noodle. I mean, geez, if Bob Dole can get an erection, then you should be able to as well. Two, there's no lead-in. Boom, all of a sudden they're having sex, and some of the things they're attempting would *hurt* without some kind of preparation. I wanna see foreplay. It's basic boolean stuff. !men can mean "no men" which I concur with because I've seen many a scene where two women are getting along famously then all of a sudden there's a big swollen red pecker in the shot all by itself then a shot of a leathery suntanned face twisted in intense concentration.
I'd like to see more women who actually enjoy what they're doing rather than it being acting that involves fucking. This is excellent stuff!
So far all we've made is girl/girl stuff, with an emphasis on foreplay and kissing, as well as sex. And a couple of the girls are genuinely enjoying it too, because that's their natural element. But eventually we're bound to do b/g vids too, and I personally want to involve story and character, much like AHunter3 wants. The problem is, the extra efforts you have to go to can be expensive, and if we don't get the returns for that, then it's unfortunately not worth it. I'm not even sure how popular video porn is anymore, with the advent of the 'net.

VHS/DVD porn It's still popular, Internet video porn is generally awful. The good ones have a very small screen, and zooming it is not impressive.
What I want to see in porn: Intensity on part of the woman. No more just lying there and enjoy it. Pull out the megaphone and shout "Stroke!! Stroke!!!" to the guy or gal going down on her. Oral sex must be a whole lot better as a participant, because I don't want to see it as a spectator. Casual and mutual set up. None of this "Take off your clothes" and ordering the people around like it is a picture shoot. Foreplay and more foreplay. And more variety of clothes. Not every woman have a teddy.

Take a mediocre-to-passable R-rated drama or comedy (i.e. not worth seeing on the big-screen, but worth a movie rental), show the sex explicitly, and you've basically arrived at my concept of good video porn. And to me, a good build-up is just as stimulating as the explicit scene itself. It explains why I prefer written porn, I suppose.

Everything else: storyline, good acting, humor, charecter development--all of that should be in the service of creating an atmosphere of exteme sexual tension. Current "I'm here to fix the cable" style porn has no tension at all.

Most porn (bad pun imminent) sucks. I'd be impressed to see any combination of better looking thespians, better acting, better lighting, better sound, better (that is, different) soundtracks, better editing (!) and a host of other quality improvements. Unfortunately, the porn game seems, due to economic reasons more than anything else, to be more about quantity than qualitiy.
