6th: Disclaimers & Tentative Schedule
Based on requests and the like:
  • Week 19 will feature: Bon Jovi with a Boston supplemental poll.
  • Week 20 will feature: David Bowie.
  • Week 21 will feature: James Brown with a Jackson Browne supplemental poll.
  • Week 22 will feature: Bush with a Kate Bush supplemental poll. Followed by...
  • Week 23 featuring: The Byrds with a possible Buffalo Springfield supplemental poll if someone requests them.
Speaking of requests, this is a democracy, so once again; if you feel I’ve alphabetically passed over a band, speak up. If I don’t hear to the contrary, we’ll be passing by bands like: The Blues Brothers, The Breeders, Brinsley Schwartz, Jimmy Buffet, Butthole Surfers and The Buzzcocks…just to name a few.

7th: Week #18’s Supplemental Poll (In another, as yet unknown thread)
I can’t post a link to it because the featured poll and results get posed first. There will however be a link back to this thread in the supplemental poll but you can still access it one of 3 ways:
  1. Click the link on my signature
  2. Access it through the Cafι Society page
  3. Bog down the server and do a search on:
gex gex’s requested band poll Belle and Sebastian.

8th: Week #18’s Featured Poll
If your memory or knowledge of the featured artist isn’t exactly up to speed, here’s a link to our featured artist’s discography with 30 second cuts of some of their tracks when you drill down through some of their albums: 13 Blur Great Escape Parklife Modern Life Is Rubbish Leisure

Without further ado, those lads from England & the 14th “B” band. At gex gex & Treviathan’s request: The group known as Blur

Here are my 6 Blur picks:

6. For Tomorrow
5. Chemical World
4. Country House
3. There’s No Other Way
2. Girls And Boys
1. Song 2

Thanking you all in advance. Have a great week.

Country House - Blur's brilliance is that they make wonderful pop (well, they did... now they make wonderful, skewed pop). It's their simple songwriting abilities that make this fab four special, and Country House is one of the finest examples of this talent. It's typical early period Blur, and I gotta say... they sure were better than Oasis.

Parklife - Like Country House, Parklife's hook is so big and catchy that you can't help falling in love with it from listen number one. Even better, this has a delightful rambling monologue about modern day living. And it's so very British, it makes you feel like having a cup of tea, donning a monocle and going for a brisk walk round the shire.

Girls + Boys - you can't help but love this song. One listen of that chorus and you're guaranteed to be singing 'girls who like boys who...' to yourself for the rest of the day.

Song 2 - it might have been used to advertise pretty much every product imaginable. it might be the 'hit'. it might even feature some of the dumbest lyrics in modern music, (I got my head checked/ by a jumbo jet) but Song 2 had a dirty garage riff, shouted woohoo! and tore down the Country House that Blur had built for themselves. And who can't love that?

Tender - And then Blur decided that they wanted to be extraordinarily unaccessable, and did so by writing a beautiful, seven minute crooner, and released it as the first single from their new album. Remember the first time you heard this? It was like, 'Woo... hoo?'

Coffee And TV - Another lo-fi acoustic strum from the end of any record executive's dream of the band making it big in America. A great tune, but this makes the list for the video alone. Believe it or not, milk cartons in love are very moving.

I call for, nay, DEMAND, a Buffalo Springfield poll. And not a supplemental poll either. The real deal, baby, the whole shebang. They are too freakin' important.

...and could I could out on a limb and ask for a Bananarama poll? C'mon, they had some pretty good stuff. Okay, while Siobhan Fahey was still around...
