10 o'clock, 11 o'clock, 12 o'clock. See? Three hours!

But, yeah, I vote for "parents coming home" too.

and. as someone predicted upthread,
SPOILER:
no sex for Luann - the cell phone spoiled the mood. AND Quill is leaving to go back to Australia, which I believe some ALSO predicted upthread

And there's a lesson for all you kids out there: Never answer the phone! There just isn't any possible future in which taking time out for a phone call is going to improve that situation.

Boy...what the heck's going on with Quill's dad that he needed to get his son home immediately to help pack up to get out of the country? Did the CIA find his dead drop, or something?

  1. What the hell? You're about to get laid. DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE!
  2. If, for some stupid reason, you do answer the phone and the caller says you're moving far away, DON'T TELL THE GIRL UNTIL AFTER THE DEED. (Okay, I guess that makes me an a$$hole.)
  3. Telling Dad you'll be home immediately doesn't mean you have to actually go home immediately. Do the deed, then split. (Okay, I really am an a$$hole.)

The teens (and older) kids in this strip act like kids from the '50s - I mean they act like kids from the '50s were supposed to act, not like they really behaved.

They reject Ozzie and Harriet reruns because they are too racy.

Is it your suspicion that Brad, Toni, Tiffany and TJ are saving themselves for marriage? Or Crystal, or Aaron Hill? I think even Bernice had something going with that guy in the wheelchair; part of the tension between her and Luann was that Luann expected to be in a serious relationship long before her homelier pal. No, I think Luann and Gunther may be the only actual virgins in this strip.

Really would be nice if you'd link the new comics when they come out, before you start talking about them.

Now there's a Luann story arc I'd follow!

Quill arrives home just in time to see a black Mercedes with tinted windows speeding from the scene. His parents brutally murdered, having been forced to kneel and shot in the back of the head, execution style. The house ransacked, his father's computer and papers missing.

Quill goes into the Witness Protection Program. But using Cartoon Logic, that means he moves in with Brad and TJ and goes back to school under the name of "Quinn".

Don't forget "Ave Maria" and "Deutschland uber Alles" coming out of the car's speakers.

But then the police (who are unaware of the espionage angle) find Quill's story fishy and accuse him of murdering his parents. His alibi is that he was with Luann; but she doesn't want her parents to know she was with Quill when she was supposed to be home alone, so she lies and screws up his alibi and now he's in jail accused of murder and it's her fault. So rather than own up to the truth, she enlists her friends in a wacky plan to save Quill...

Based on today's comic, my guess is that Quinn is making all this up just to ditch Luann and the rest of the insane people at school. He's probably planning to hop a midnight bus out of town, just in the nick of time.

When Brad and Toni do it, we'll know. I don't know about Toni and obnoxious ex though - he didn't seem like the type to wait, which might be her problem.
TJ is gay, that is obvious. Notice that while Tiffany plays hot, no boy actually seems interested in her.
Hard to say about Crystal, she might have a life offstage. Bernice was jailbait at the time of the wheelchair guy, so I doubt it.

In any case, by comic strip logic we'd have at least a month of strips leading up to any big event. These kids have about as much sex life as Puddles.

But it doesn't work, he gets the chair, and she wanders the mall in a long black veil.

o/` Her name was Luann,
she was a schoolgirl,
with yellow feathered hair
and dressed all in teenage wear.
She used to study and tell kids stories,
and while her singing caused a stir,
Quill worked on recording her.
Across her bro's bedroom,
they'd work from morn to noon.
They were young and they had each other
and their speech balloons!

...

Her name is Luann,
she was a schoolgirl,
but that was 30 years gone past,
and her youth, it didn't last.
Now it's a Ground Round,
but not for Luann,
Can't fit the jeans she used to wear,
dyes her yellow feathered hair.
She sits there eating steaks
and downing all the cakes,
she lost her youth and she lost her Aussie,
but she's not losing weight! o/`

It sounds more to me like Evans tweaking his readership. "What did you EXPECT to happen in a family comic?! Perverts!"

Which is kind of ironic, given how often Evans edges up to that line with various characters...

(As opposed to McEldowney, who tramples that line into smithereens on a regular basis.)

"... everybody panics and starts running around like headless chickens, including trips across the ocean.

"Then it turns out to be a false alarm. But not before every character in the story arc has gone through a major meltdown. In the meantime, the readership is collecting torches and pitchforks."
