RIP Grumpy Cat

Doris Day, Tin Conway, Peggy Lipton -- and now, Grumpy Cat.

Where will it end?

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/grump...b00e035b8daba1

Quote:
“We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat,” wrote Tabatha, Bryan and Chrystal Bundesen in a statement.

The mixed-breed “encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome,” the statement read.

“She passed away peacefully,” it added, “at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.”

The family from Morristown, Arizona, noted how Grumpy Cat, whose real name is Tardar Sauce, had “helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough.”

It vowed that “her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

Tributes poured in on Twitter, where fans said they were “heartbroken” by the news.

Poor little Tardar Sauce I know it's lame, but I really am sad about this (which would make Grumpy Cat happy, so there's that). Maybe now her brother, Pokey can step into the spotlight.

BTW, am I overthinking it or is her name a reference to her deformity, i.e., she's a "retard"?

I really am sad about this too. As I said in the other thread, I'm making her exact same facial expression right now.

Poor puddy tat!

I once learned the hard way that cats should be kept indoors and away from others in the neighborhood, since Feline Uterine Syndrome (FUS) is highly contagious. Neither should plastic dishes be used, since they're porous and can trap pathogens.

My own beloved cat will be 19 in September. I hope he hangs on a while longer. I found him meowing in my building's stairwell when he was just eight weeks old. I can't believe it's been that long....

Her appearance, health and age at death are a good illustration of why putting a lot of emphasis on physical breed characteristics is a bad idea.

I do remember this from when it started, and yes, you are right, they totally retconned the cat's name once they hit the mainstream and had to start talking about it outside of Reddit or Youtube. A quick Google pulls up this article about it from just a few months after the original reddit post in 2012.

Someone actually gave me a Grumpy Cat picture book a few years ago. I loved Grumpy Cat! One of my favorite memes: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/attclTwSkVI/hqdefault.jpg

Rest in peace, Grumpy Cat. Your ill humor made the world just a little better place.

OK, no, I guess it didn't. And you would have wanted it that way.

For Halloween last year one of the depts. picked Grumpy cat as their decor theme. We're talkin' wall to wall GC, with a pinata, and a GC cake and a "litter box" where you could feel around for little prizes. I think that may have been the happiest hour I've spent at this place.

Henri "le cat". Has made TWO posts on my Facebook feed.

He assures us that he's still here (with white imbecile) firmly stuck to his mortal coil.

I don't think I've seen him post in years.

She didn't die!

Mom said that they took her out to the farm, the one we see far away from the highway. The one with the big barn full of hay, and the horses. The barn swallows in the Spring.

She is still getting used to the hens and the turkeys. And that damn Australian dog they have. But it is all going to be just fine there.

I will miss Grumpy Cat.

The best picture I saw of her today, she was surrounded by clouds, angels, and harps.

"Is this Heaven? I hate it."

I was depressed this news was in 3 of my daily news feeds (one was NPR!). Along with Hershey doing "emoji bars". What has news come to?
No ill will toward the cat, I love cats. But national news coverage?

I bought Grumpy's wall calendar and page-a-day desk calendar every year. I hope they still keep making them. The page-a-day gave me a little chuckle every morning.
