Can you ID the actress in the Steppin' Out video?

My Google-Fu is weak on this one.

In the video for Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out, who is the actress that plays the maid who is fantasizing about the night on the town? She has always looked familiar, but I cannot put a name with the face.

Yeah, no clue but she looks familiar. I thought it might be the older, marrying sister from Sixteen Candles, but I don't think it's her.

Could be Rebecca Staab. The age would be about right.

My first guess was Arleen Sorkin, but I think that's just because she played a maid in the sitcom Duet.

Lindsay Crouse, b. 1948? She would have been 34 in 1982. Here she is in an episode of Columbo seven years later:

My Google Fu failed me as well. But the actress bears a resemblance to Cynthia Rhodes, who was 26 in 1982.

All of these ladies bear a strong resemblance, but I don't think we've found her yet.

Ah, well....perhaps some things are not meant to be known.

I'm standing by my guess until I hear otherwise.

If the answer is not on the internet, we could always do a little independent research; contact someone involved with the video and ask.

So... when the wealthy woman leaves, does the give the maid instructions to let the piano player out, like a cat?

It's definitely neither Lindsay Crouse nor Cynthia Rhodes; I remember both of them clearly.

These kind of things bug me, so I sent an email to Joe Jackson's management company (it was the only contact I could find). I'm not hopeful, but I'll report back if I get a reply.

I just have to mention here that I had a different Joe Jackson question years ago about a clip of him playing in a Michelob commercial - a great cover of a song that he had done. Didn't find it for years, but it did turn up: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/...ad.php?t=86267

Hey Troutman - how about this one? I tried to ID a model used in an Amazon ad and realized how surprisingly impossible it appeared to be able to get a name: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/...d.php?t=744622

Sure. It's 867-5309!

I am surprised in this Age of Surveillance we live in today, how some things are still not findable. I was mentioning in a music thread that there is a documentary on the cult, influential powerpop band Big Star - there appears to be no live footage of them and no interview footage or even many photos of Chris Bell, one of the main creative forces behind the first album. Weird.

Could it be Cristine Rose (best known for playing a mother of adult sons on Heroes)? She'd have been 30 or 31 when the video was filmed. She does have a strong chin and nose, not dissimilar to what we see of the maid-character. IMDb shows her first credit as having been in 1977:

Folks keep saying "actress". Are we sure she wasn't, like, a "dancer"?

(Dunno if that's any help, but figured the question may need to be phrased just right.)

Yup. The gentleman who responded seemed a bit baffled why he received two emails about a 30 year old video within a few days of each other.

It's like a scavenger hunt or something.

Not to be discouraging, but from the link I provided, Marc Nobleman (who searched for 80s video actresses) said this:

For months, all leads have turned to dead ends. Here is who hasn’t remembered/had record of their names:

>the music video directors
>the producers
>the casting agents
>the record companies
>the fans
>the bands

Someone could post something on his Facebook page.

I kinda want to just bombard this guy with emails about this video, just to make his week interesting.

I've been coming back to this thread on and off since it was posted. Every time, I pull up the video and take a look, because I feel like this woman's name is right there and I just can't bring it to the front. It's far more likely that she just resembles somebody I know personally or could name, but I find I've become very invested in her identity.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation?

It's Marg Helgenberger, who was about 23 years old when the video was made.

Just watch the video (again)

Interesting puzzle. She does look familiar - kind of like Carolyn McCormick from Law & Order and ST:TNG (http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Carolyn_McCormick), but I don't think it's her.

No help here, either:

That's an excellent hypothesis, although it would be odd that she discusses other music videos she'd been in (leading up to her role in Dirty Dancing), but not "Steppin' Out". She's retired now, and no longer married to Richard Marx, but they had three kids together. Surely, someone here could cast a wider net that would catch one of those five people and maybe get us some answers!

Could be. You get the best look at her face starting at 1:40 in that video, and with dark hair, I think that just might be her.
