A different people, same name question

I’d love to see a serious, well-done movie about the opening of Japan. Not a comedy or parody, but (just because it would be funny) starring Matthew Perry as Matthew Perry. How about some other actors with a historical namesake that they could reasonably play?

(Sorry for the vague subject line, I had a hard time coming up with something usefully descriptive.)

Has the singer Engelbert Humperdinck ever acted? I don't know if playing a 19th century composer would be too much of a stretch.

The artist chose that stage name because of the composer, so that would be kind of cheating.

If Jethro Tull ever reunites, they'll have to do a concept album about the 17th century agriculturalist.

Steve McQueen, award-winning director of 12 Years a Slave, needs to do a biopic about the 70's action movie star.

It's not too late for ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach to star in a docudrama about the Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach.

Maybe Harrison Ford could do a biopic about that silent film action hero, Harrison Ford.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris...ent_film_actor)

(They each have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame)

A slight stretch, but since "van" means "of," Joan van Ark could play the Maid of Orléans.

There are two or three actors named Michael Jackson. They could play one of the many Michael Jacksons in song, writing, politics, or science (besides that famous one)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michae...disambiguation)

Paul Simon the singer could play Paul Simon the now-deceased Illinois Congressman. Heck, they both appeared on the same episode of Saturday Night Live once.

John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin is getting a little long in the tooth to play the naval hero (though maybe stage names shouldn't count).

He lost out on fame by being left behind in the spaceship. Now he comes to free Ireland. He is... Michael Collins.

I would like to see Keith David and David Keith in a buddy comedy.

Bill Nighy as Bill Nye. For that matter, if the former gets called back to start in another Pirates of the Caribbean, and doesn't want to, Davy Jones of the Monkees could step in. Sure he's dead, but then the character is undead.

Reality TV host Jesse James could play the outlaw (who he claims was a relative).

Chris Columbus is mainly a producer/director but has a couple of bit roles as an actor and could play the navigator.

It would be amusing to see Jaye P. Morgan cast as the magnate J.P.

Brian Cox (actor) could play astrophysicist heartthrob Brian Cox in his biopic, provided that it included scenes from his future life, when he'd really let himself go.

Madonna

Australian actor John Howard has played Australian Prime Minister John Howard, in The Games, giving the apology to the Stolen Generation that JH PM refused to give.

Unrelated fun fact: the main character in the terrible film "Troll" is named Harry Potter. The sequel, Troll 2, which features exactly zero trolls but some vegetarian goblins, is more popular.

Also, on M*A*S*H Sherman Potter was played by Harry Morgan. (There must be an alternate universe somewhere where Rowling named her character Sherman Morgan.)

Even better, sort of, would be Oona Chaplin playing her grandmother Oona Chaplin. (Although she went by "Oona O'Neill", the press still generally called her "Oona Chaplin".)

As I mentioned recently in another thread, when TNT ran all the Harryhausen "Sinbad" movies in one night, many years ago, they had it hosted by actor/comedian Sinbad, dressed up in a typical "Sinbad" costume. So you almost get your wish.

What about Jerry Lewis as Jerry Lee Lewis.

Sort of related trivia: In the TV movie John & Yoko, actor Mark Lyndsey was set to play John Lennon until his real full name came out: Mark Lyndsey Chapman. Since Lennon was killed by Mark (David) Chapman, the producers went with someone else. I mean, would you have John Kennedy played by Lee Harvey?

Isn't that the origin of the "Sinbad was the genie in Shazam" thingy? People remember him dressed as Sinbad and attribute it to the movie?

Bump.

This isn't exactly the same thing, but I've (just now) been watching The Man in the High Castle and have been noticing that there is someone attached to the show named Emma Frost. And looking on the IMDB, I see that she was a writer on a series called The White Queen. (For those who don't know why that is funny.)
