Experiences with mediation

My MIL is scheduled to go to mediation to divide up assets, post-divorce. Has anyone had divorce-related mediation, and can share their experience? She is anxious about this, and her attorney isn't returning her calls (she wants to ask him what it will be like - he is ignoring her because of her penchant for many similar "non-substantial questions" in the past).
