I recently came across this really useful site that lists deals on Steam, Origin, Uplay, Amazon, the Humble Bundle and like 20 other digital download sites. You can choose to only look for games that are Steam-activatable, if you'd like. You can use it in three ways:

1) Browsing directly on http://isthereanydeal.com/
2) Adding specific games to your wishlist there (or importing your Steam wishlist) and getting emailed whenever they're on sale
3) Using the Steam Price History Graph extension for Chrome to automatically let you know about low prices when you browse the Steam website in Chrome

Much easier than searching through all the digital download sites separately.

I use http://www.steamgamesales.com/

It might be better than isthereanydeal for people not in the US as you can change the region.

Origin is having a decent sale. Mass Effect 3 for AUD 6, if you've been putting that buy off. Sims 3 was a little tempting, but I'd need to read up on what expansions to get.

GamersGate has the second Civ V DLC, Brave New World for AUD 7.50. Lowest that it's ever been.

GreenManGaming has a Total War collection for 20 something bucks. Does not have Rome II, of course. Really can't think who'd buy something like that, but I feel a bit dim for picking up Empire for 9 bucks the other day. I guess the one I bought includes more DLC. They do have Rome II on sale as well, for 30 bucks. It's been that low several times.

I think isthereanydeal lists a few more stores (Humble Bundle, DLrocket, etc.) You can change its region at the very top left.

The Steam Summer Sale is on early this year. It goes from today (June 19th) to June 30th.

So far we've got major discounts on:
Don't Starve: $3.74
The Witcher 1 & 2: $1.99 and $3.99
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion: $7.99
Far Cry 3: $7.49
XCom Enemy Unknown: $7.49
Dead Island Riptide: $4.99

And a whole bunch more. It's only the first day, so there'll be plenty more to come.

PS: I have a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 (for Steam) if anyone wants it. PM me your Steam username or your email address.

Okay, I've always thought the Tropico games looked cool and interesting and possibly even fun, and now Steam has the Tropico 4 Collector's Bundle on sale for $39.99; it includes 12 DLC packs.

But the important thing is that it's now available for Mac, so my question is: do you think I would think that this was money well spent? I like strategy games but never cottoned to any of the Sim stuff. Civ, Age of Empires, C&C, Warcraft, Starcraft, etc.? All hundreds and hundreds of hours playing.

In my very limited experience with Tropico (an hour or so, at most), it seemed more like a city-building game than a combat-oriented RTS like the others you mentioned. Completely different genre. I'd watch a few gameplay videos or download a demo of the series before buying, if I were you. (Coming from someone who loved all the games you mentioned, but not Settlers, Tropico, Rome, Caesar, etc.)

Tropico is a city-builder. If you don't like SimCity and its ilk, you're not going to like Tropico either. If you like city-builders and were disappointed with last year's release of SimCity (or even if you weren't), then Tropico will be right up your alley. Tropico 5 was released just a few months ago, so you should be able to pick up its predecessor Tropico 4 for a steep discount.

GoG is having a Sixth Anniversary sale with up to 80% off an assortment of 20 games each day.

There's also an end of summer sale with 6 hours left.

I never update this thread anymore because, well, there are just too many awesome deals going on constantly to keep track of all of them. From time to time I'll mention a game I particularly recommend, but there's just too much good value out there to mention even a tenth of it.

There are a bunch of sites that specialize in aggregating these deals now like cheapshark, isthereanydeal, steamgamesales, etc.

I will occasionally post seasonal sale threads because those typically generate a lot of discussion and I'll link to them from this thread.

Speaking of which, here's the fall/black friday sale thread.

I also created a (temporarily) free game thread

Also, following this steam group will point you to a lot of deals.

Guild wars 2 is $10 this weekend. That's an unusually low price, and it's a buy to play MMO (no subs), so I figured people might be interested. I'm going to grab it.

There's a Lego Games bundle for sale at Nuuvem. Around $7.50 for:
Batman
Batman 2 DC Super Heroes
Harry Potter: Years 1-4
Harry Potter: Years 5-7
The Hobbit
Marvel Super Heroes
The Lord of the Rings
The Movie - Videogame

They also have Batman: Arkham Origins for under $2

Nuuvem is based out of Brazil so the site is in Portuguese. You will receive Steam keys for each game. Nuuvem is a legitimate authorized Steam game retailer. While some games they sell are region locked, the games I listed here are not and keys can be redeemed in the US (and I assume Rest of World but I won't personally guarantee it since I don't live there)

In celebration of its three-year anniversary, Crusader Kings II is free to play on Steam for a week. These things usually only take place over the weekend, but in the case of CKII a week seems to be just about the right length of time to get the hang of things. The base game and DLC is also 75% off for the week.

EA sale on amazon. Titanfall is pretty fun for $6, and Battlefield 4 Premium for $15 is a really good deal if you have battlefield 4. I've been playing it again recently since it's been mostly fixed and before hardline comes out, and if you're interested in getting back into Battlefield with me, contact me.

Also, GMG has a VIP section (need to be logged in I think) which has discounts on full price games, both new and preorder. I don't know if this is a temporary promo or your account needs to meet some criteria, but there's some good stuff there. Notably Cities: Skyline for under $22, preorder discounts on the order of 20-35% for a bunch of upcoming games.

The GMG VIP section is open to anyone with an account and is the same price for all account-holders. The main benefit of it versus the coupon codes is that you can use credit from Playfire there (or back when GMG did 'trade ins') whereas you can't use credit in conjunction with the coupons.

The VIP section itself seems to come and go. I guess they bring it out when they have a few major release titles to tempt people with.

Steam is doing a 2K Tenth Anniversary sale, so F. Pu and I finally picked up copies of Borderlands 2. It's been a while since we had a good co-op shooter to play. Though I'm still not sure that I'm not going to swiftly get bored of BL itself. Luckily, for the price of a pint, I'm not expecting much.

Diablo 3: ROS expansion is on sale for $15 today, previous low price was $20. And it's a digital copy so you don't need to buy it from a retailer like the previous $20 offers. D3 is also listed at $15 there too, but it seems to be out of keys. Not sure if they're going to be restocked before the deal ends. Starcraft 2 / expansion are $10 each also.

Also available on battle.net directly for 50% off / $20 for both the base game and expansion. You can save $5 by grabbing it on gamestop, and they probably just give you a code to enter into battle.net anyway, but if you want the base game or don't want to use gamestop for some reason you can go that route.

GMG has all (?) the bethesda games on sale, plus you can apply code 22SLIC-KDEALS-EXCLUS for another 20% off. Skyrim Legendary becomes $10.61 with the coupon. It annoys me to re-buy stuff, but since the cheapest the Skyrim DLC has ever been is $10 each, obviously this is the best way to buy them. Dishonored at $8 for the GOTY edition and the Fallout GOTYs are notable too.

Likewise - I would've bought Borderlands Pre-Sequel, but it's still way over my must-buy point. It is kinda funny how much faster my interest curve in the game drops than its price curve.

Also it's not the last day, there's still 5 days left.

They have it marked as "low stock" but Bundlestars has a nice set out for $4.99 (all Steam keys)

Planetary Annihilation
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat
Of Orcs And Men
It came from space, and ate our brains
Super Motherlode
Merchants of Kaiden
The Original Strife: Veteran Edition
Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey
Survivalist
Spark Rising

Of Orcs & Men is a very linear but somewhat entertaining RPG with Dragon Age-esque combat where you play an orc and a goblin trying to kill the human emperor and stop his war against your tribes, Stalker: Call of Pripyat is a classic FPS, the sequel to Shadow of Chernobyl and Letter Quest has proved a good deal of fun for me -- you play a cartoon grim reaper fighting his way across the landscape (to get pizza). When you fight a monster, you spell words from an random assortment of Scrabble-style letter tiles, doing damage based on the words you create. As you progress, they put limitations on you such as each word needs to contain a top row letter or the monster only takes damage from words with two vowels. Anyway, fun game and easy to play in small doses since each "dungeon" only has one or two monsters in it.

I'm not very familiar with the other games but those three alone more than make it a deal for five bucks.

I don't know how long this has been going on, but the deals aggregator site IsThereAnyDeal now shows Steam user reviews. This makes it even more useful than before, because now you can find only the highly-rated games on sale amidst the oceans of crap.

If you set the IsThereAnyDeal filters to Steamworks and at least 50% off (or use that link to have the filters set for you), you can now use JavaScript to hide games that aren't rated Positive or above.

To do so, copy the code below. Go to the link above and scroll down a few times (to let it load several pages of games). Then in the address bar, type "javascript:" followed by pasting the code you just copied. This should hide all but the positive games.
Code:
$("div.game").not(':contains("Positive")').hide()
-------------

If you're not familiar with Steam reseller aggregator sites like IsThereAnyDeal, they work by crawling through Steam resellers for titles on sale. Yes, Steam keys are also sold through authorized resellers and they often have great sales of their own. These sites usually take PayPal and give you a key that you just copy & paste into Steam to activate. They never have to get your credit card info. The sites I've personally used without problem are: Green Man Gaming, GamesRocket, GamersGate, Humble Bundle/Humble Store, Nuuvem, GamesPlanet (various languages, each have their own sales, but still activate for US English Steam), and others that I can't remember.

You should never buy a game full price on Steam these days, because one or more reseller will often have it for at least 20% off.

On Steam, Crusader Kings II is on sale. The base game is $8, or a package with a lot of the DLCs for $40 (everything released more than a year ago, I think).
