I'm so giddy with anticipation, I feel like Arya about to get to the twins to finally reunite with her mother and brother.

You might want to check HBO on Demand for Episode 9. Otherwise, this one is going to be confusing.

Wait, why is Walder Frey's castle called "the twins"?

Because it's two twin towers on each side of a river connected by a bridge.

So, I'm guessing the bloom is off the relationship between Jon and Ygritte.

The scene with Daenerys seemed utterly gratuitous. That is, just thrown in so people will know what's up with Daenerys. Didn't really advance the story at all.

If the red witch is so good at foreseeing the future, why didn't she foresee her kingsblood supply being allowed to escape, hmmmm?

Re: Tyrion's protest: Marital rape seems a fairly advanced concept for Westoros. WE didn't make it illegal in most states until the 1980s.

Wonder what Varys' real reason was for trying to send away Tyrion's mistress? Not sure I buy his explanation.

The bloom might be off the rose, but we got one final, "You know nothing, Jon Snow." Although with less contempt than previously. And a couple of "Hodors."

I think we're going to see quite a few clashes between Tywin and Joffrey next season.

Loved the statement, "anyone who feels the need to declare 'I am the King' isn't the King."(quoting from memory)

Agreed. I mean, didn't they establish all that in the previous episode? (Or at least, it could be inferred?)

Zing! Nice one. And true, really.

I think a season finale should build to a climax that keeps people on the edges of their seats. The Red Wedding would have been a good place to take a break. (Well, as if anytime is a good place for a break in this series!) Tonight's show just seemed like more moving-pieces-into-places.

Yeah, I honestly expected Tywin to retort back,
"It's not rape if she's your wife."

I'm not quite sure why they felt we needed a reminder about the wedding on the previously on. Yeah HBO, we still remember.

It seems the show has a tradition now of ending each season on a triumphant scene with Dany and her dragons. I'm not complaining.

It's hard to care too much about Theon or to get very excited about his sister's quest to save him because, well, they're all a bunch of assholes anyway.

I liked that we finally got some intersection between the stories of Sam, Brann, and Jon. And, whoah! Ygritte is pissed!

I was so hoping Joffrey would go too far with Tywin and pay the ultimate price. Maybe a little too much nightshade in his sleeping tonic?

I would watch a whole show of Arya and the Hound roaming the countryside and kicking ass.

I loved how the Hound didn't really object to what she did, only that she didn't warn him.

Theon is going to find it difficult to 'become excited' from now on. His dad's a dick for basically saying Theon can beat it.

Yeah, not much impact for a finale. I wanted a stunning image, like the White Walker or something....to tide us over until next season. Didn't really get much of anything, other than Arya going stabby. Could really do without the Theon torture porn. Don't really care about his sister coming to "rescue" him...not much left to rescue, nothing deserving of the effort at this point.

The funniest bit for me was Sam saying to Bran, "I'll do anything for you," to which Bran replied, "Take us north of the wall." You could see Sam wanted to say, "Anything but that."

Jaqen H'gar (the murder genie) gave it to her last season. I forgot what he told her, but it was something along the lines that if you ever need help give it to someone from Braavos.

Jaqen H'ghar (the assassin) gave the coin to Arya. IIRC, he said she could use it to find him. (That was last season, so I don't remember.) He is also the one who taught her Valar orghulis ('All men must die').

I thought the best was Tyrion saying something to the effect of "Killed some puppies today?"

Meesa thinks this one good episode!

I thought sending the elder Greyjoy Theon's prick was ridiculously stupid, in the context of the Westoros society. One of the, if not the most important things a son can do for his family is produce more heirs, preferably male heirs. That's why Tywin is pressuring Tyrion to screw Sansa, her willing or not. So a son without a cock is not a very useful son. And given that Theon was not raised with his family, it would be logical to assume there is not a LOT of family feeling there. So Theon's fathers' response was logical and kinda predictable.

Now, if they had sent Theon's finger or his ear, Theon remains a valuable playing piece for his father. It raises his value and makes him a more effective blackmail tool. Plus sending a finger raises the possibilty that Theon's cock might be cut off. Having already cut it off and sent it to his father, Bolton has wasted that threat.

Very, very stupid, strategically speaking, but I guess that's what happens when you send a psychopath to do a man's job.

Really liked the episode...but yeah...when it went to the credits I said "Wait-what?"

Now that "no one is safe" I wasn't expecting Jon to make it away from the pond. And then I was really worried for Gendry.
My dream team of King Stannis- Gendry as heir- Davos as hand seems to have fallen apart.

The Tywin/Tyrion scene and the Stannis/Davos scene were interesting for hitting the same beats. Tywin saw the Stark massacre as more "moral" since it would save thousands and Stannis was still willing to sacrifice Gendry to save thousands.

With the white rat story its safe to say Walder Frey is due for a reckoning. I expected it to come in the next scene, bit it looks like we'll have to wait.

Seeing Robb's body with the wolf head actually felt like a gut punch.

I am curious if Arya's forgiven the Hound or if she's still on his list. I am also curious what the Hounds wants with her now.

Season 1 & 3, yes, but season 2 ended on the White Walker army marching toward the wall. Turns out it was a very, very, very slow march. Dany's final scene in the season 2 finale was when her little draglets roasted the sorcerer guy alive. "Undying," eh? Not quite.

I did like Dany's new title, though: The "Unburnt." heh.

I'm rooting for Joffrey in the contest between Joffrey and Tywin, and was hoping Joffrey would have guards come in and chop Tywin's head off.

Sure, the Lannisters would almost immediately crumble into anarchy and be easy pickings for Stannis, but I have no particular rooting interest in the Lannisters. I just think the most interesting storyline for the Lannisters would be Tywin's realization that Joffrey is way more psychotic than he ever imagined.

I really liked many of the individual scenes, but as a whole, this felt a little administrative for a finale. Lots of "we need to tie up this section of the plot, and we need to move these chess pieces here for next season, and people will be mad if we don't check in on this person" kind of stuff.

I did LOVE the scene with Jaime returning to Cersei. It's a short scene with one word of dialog, but you could sit someone down who knew nothing about GoT to watch it, and they'd understand almost the whole story between the two. Was it just me, or did their final looks communicate that she isn't as thrilled as she would be to have all of him back?

Arya prison-shanking that Frey was pretty harsh (not that I felt bad for him). It's not the first person she's killed, but this time it was less panic and more planning.

To be fair, he did somehow change the entire structure of his face in seconds around that time, so literally thinking he could appear in a puff of smoke wouldn't be too irrational.

Hey, at least we found out that Sam has more "dragon glass" knives and didn't just leave an important weapon behind...

I liked the episode - yes, Dany's scene was tacked-on at the end.

I have NOT read the books or read stuff online, and here's my conjecture: Dany is being positioned as, hmm...."inevitable"? - as the powerful, magic, charismatic leader destined for the Iron Throne. So that means something will happen next season to throw all that in doubt. Meanwhile, the Starks have been left without leaders, power or hope - which suggests that Sansa will end up rising up as a not-so-innocent political insider getting tips from Tyrion on how to wield influence - and Arya will continue on her road to take-no-prisoners badassery.

What was the story Bran was telling? I caught the end and it seems some God dislikes killing those under your roof? I know it relates to Frey or was a warning about what happens to Frey but until I get the episode on DVR (forgot last night ) it is bugging me.

He basically said that the gods weren't angry for killing or other such acts, but instead because you welcomed a guest to your hospitality, then killed them. Cut camera to Walder Frey - a subtle connection and bit of foreshadowing, that...

Do you recall which Gods? Speaking of Gods, I have a feeling the red witch is tormenting Ser Davos by allowing him to live she basically showed him she is in charge based all on the look she gave at the end.

I'm getting the feeling that next season Joffrey is going to kill off Tyrion in order to make a statement to Tywin. I just can't imagine him allowing Tyrion to continually insult him - plus his denial of being tired and all that point that way.

I don't want Tyrion to die, he's one of my favorite characters, but I just have a bad feeling.

Well, it was Bran telling the story, so I assume it was the old gods that the northerners worship.

I dunno - Tyrion has threatened to kill Joffrey numerous times over the series, and with the emphasis this show has placed on him (Tyrion), I wouldn't put it past him. Add in the developing relationship between him and Sansa, as well as the plot pointing towards him and Sansa needing to create an heir (otherwise, what's the point of that entire storyline from Martin's perspective?), I could see Tyrion offing Joffrey as a tribute of his dedication to Sansa.

It might happen that way. That guy could show up riding a flaming ostrich singing La Bamba in Yiddish and I wouldn't be surprised.
