I'll address these together. There are two reasons. Neither of them really justifies my decision to wuss out, but...

1. Reporting him would cause great anguish amongst a group of people I consider to be as close as family (note, the few times the subject of his voting has come up, they have, to a person, told him to cut it out and that it's wrong - but that's different than sending him to jail).

2. I don't actually believe he does it. I think he probably actually did it once years back (through forgetfullness or possibly even actual malice), but I just can't imagine him going through the effort anymore. He's the kind of guy who tells great stories about THE WAR, but you'd be fool to believe half of them.

Now, I could be wrong (about 2 - I know I'm not wrong about 1) and, if so, I guess I'm some sort of accomplice to voter fraud. As things stand, I don't have a problem looking myself in the mirror.

Why were previous allegations of misconduct against Sproul's company brushed aside? Should these past allegations now be looked at more seriously?

Absolutely. And with a threat of serious jail time in play, I bet anyone involved would give up anything they knew. And I am all for it. This kind of crap has no place in election work.

You appear to have missed my condemnation post in the Pit thread. As I said above, I have no truck with lawbreakers, and I'm surprised you thought otherwise.

Even among my .... er ... ardent detractors, the heat I take is typically for ignoring the spirit or morality (as they see the spirit or morality) in favor of the letter of the law. Here, the letter of the law was clearly violated, and I have nothing but contempt for that, and I'm surprised you'd think otherwise.
