I said I wasn't going to do this, but after the baseless and truly appalling accusations this dimwit has made against me and against the SDMB in general, I've had it. I'll go by this step by step, since the thread below has a lot of filler between our dear friend and yours truly and I'd like to focus our attention on what matters. I'll try to keep the language here appropriate for the Pit, though with this joker, that won't be easy.

Here's the thread.

mister nyx started his usual spiel about how sexist and homophobic us Dopers are. Yeah, because if there's anything we're known for around here, it's good ol' fag hatin'. Guess that explains why we just had a poll in IMHO with support for same-sex marriage at 337 for to 11 against. Yeah, we're definitely right up there with the Phelps crew.

In the thread I linked to at the top of this post, mister nyx (I'm not bolding his name anymore because quite frankly, he's a disgrace to the bold function.) posted this gem, showing his dripping condescension for this place. I'll just quote the relevant parts, since most of what he's writing is about as dumb as it gets.

Well gee, I never imagined that a board as skeptical as this one would drink the Kool-Aid of support of domestic violence. Proved me wrong. Nice to know what this guy truly thinks of us. I finally ask mister nyx why he hates this place on #46. At this point he was on my radar, but I didn't really care that much.

Here's yet another gem from our friend here:

And some people still seem to be taking him seriously even after he told an outright lie -- we've already identified one provision of the bill that clearly would weaken protection against domestic violence for one group of people (other supporters of the bill even approvingly mention this provision!), and yet he denies that the bill would weaken domestic violence laws. He's also touting nonsense statistics, from a study done by their own organization (surprise!) where the methodology obviously has some room for improvement. Anyone who still thinks it's valuable to hear his viewpoint after that -- as one poster clearly indicated -- must have some preexisting sympathy to it.

I'm pretty sure I can figure out, hell I'm pretty sure almost anyone can figure out that domestic abuse is wrong without having to look at the "methodology" and "nonsense statistics". Sorry if you can't, nyx.

He did prove that he can focus on more than one poster at a time. He's in a bunch of pissing contests even now. It's like he's trying to make it quite clear that he doesn't think much of this place even though he allegedly can think of far more intelligent boards than this place. I'm sure such boards exist, and it makes me wonder why nyx doesn't just slither his way back to them.

That was his reply to BrainGlutton. I don't agree with what Brain posted, since I don't like to wish abuse on people, at least not these days. I've done it in the past and I've learned not to piss off karma. That said, I can understand why Brain was appalled at the idea of terincali, a woman herself, wanting to support her cause. I asked him (our pittee, not BrainGlutton. The latter would have answered honestly.) two questions:

Okay, so you wish that people who disagree with you (obviously, at this point, me included) were being abused by our spouses.

Where he got that one, I can't say. I asked him a question, and he responded by saying I wish anyone who disagrees with me should be abused, you know the rest.

I obviously disagree with nyx, but I still don't want him to be abused by his spouse. If he's single, then I hope he doesn't get into a relationship with someone like that. An asshole he may be, but I'd like to think that I'm better than that. He won't believe it, but the truth is the truth whether he believes it or not.

I responded, rather heatedly, here. A bit blunt, but if someone made an accusation like this dumbass made, most of you would just as harsh, though not as vulgar. I'm good at seeing through types like this, but I'll admit I'm not a master of Swiftian satire. But if a post that had all of the subtlety of Tsar Bomba flew over his head, I don't think giving him a modest proposal about what he can do with himself would sail any lower.

Dumbass responded with this straw man, although I'm not sure any logical fallacy applies there since this guy wasn't using any kind of logic to begin with. But I think straw man comes close enough for that and the remainder of Champ's posts here. The whole thing is one big straw man. It takes "straw man" to a whole new level.

You know what? Unlike nyx, I know Dopers here can read. The rest of you have reasoning abilities, or at the very least, you're miles ahead of this douche.

I think everyone here knows (except for nyx) that when you make claims, you need evidence to back up those claims. (Hence why "Cite?" has become a common catchphrase here.) When you make extraordinary claims like this guy has, you need extraordinary evidence. This isn't rocket science, it isn't sophomore high school physics, it isn't even dumping baking soda into vinegar. Dear Old Smokester here couldn't even cough up ordinary evidence for his ordinary claims. I would repeat that I wasn't asking for anything as outrageous as what he was claiming I was asking for. I would have taken him on his word when he said this about his experience with gay rights groups, but after what he'd said before, I'm not inclined to believe him on anything. The guy can't fucking read, for Christ's sakes. Hell, I gave him more information than he gave me, except I actually, you know, provided proof. It was a webpage granted, but it's a hell of a lot more than he gave.

He finally started bitching about me being a psycho. Convenient of him to suddenly "realize" that once he knew that I knew he was an asshole. (Not like I didn't know that before, but oh well.) Yep, I'm a psycho because I ask him to back up his claims that I support wife beating. He isn't reading any of my posts beyond my screen name. I couldn't swear under a court of law that he knows what my screen name itself is.

He claimed he was gay, which he might be for all I know. It's none of my business, and I wouldn't have pressed him about it except he asked me first. (I revealed that I'm bisexual, and he tapdanced around the issue, claiming he'd posted that he was gay more than once before. He hadn't, but no surprise there.) He finally argued that he referred to "us" as in gay people collectively. No he didn't. I looked, didn't see any references to "us", let alone him explicitly saying that he's gay.

You haven't referred to the gay community as "us" once in this thread. If you have, then correct me and show me where you did. Not that you will, of course.

Not sure why I asked, I already knew both the real answer and what he'd say.
