Well that was a bust for me
 Google maps said it would take 25 min - it took 90. stop and go the entire way. So I got there an hour late, spent the next 45 minutes looking for a parking spot while trying not to run down about a million pedestrians and finally gave up. Just got home

Well there were only three of us that showed, and the rest of youse guys all missed a great time! When the owner of the joint found out that we were there from The Straight Dope, he told us what a big fan he is, and he comped us all our drinks. Then he sent out a bunch of free food for us. Lobster, prime rib, the works. Then he had the waitresses give us all lap dances.
After that, Michael Jordon, Mike Ditka, and Ron Santo stopped by. They're all big Dope fans, too, and begged to be allowed to sit with us. What a sweet bunch of guys! Ditka gave us all free iPads and gift certificates to his restaurant. Ronnie bought a bottle of Dom Perignon for each of us, and led us in a round of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game." Boy, does he have some great stories about Harry Carey! By then, we were all too tipsy to drive home, so Michael Jordon called up Rahm Emanuel and had him send some city helicopters to take us each home. After an awesome sight-seeing tour of the Loop and the skyline, of course. Hope you can all make the next one!

Yeah, the downpour might have been a problem, but for two things.
Number one, Tom Skilling happened to be sitting at the table next to us. What an awesome dude! He didn't want his Cosmo to get diluted by the precipitation, so at the first hint of droplets from the sky, he whipped out his Google Nexus 7 tablet and tapped into the NOAA satellite network. Amazingly, he was able to direct some energy beams from the Hubble that created a surgical hole in the cloud cover, effectively stopping the rain from hitting our specific address. Amazing what they can do these days! Then he gave us all some rare DVDs of Jackie Bange and Frasier Thomas canoodling in a broom closet at the Chicago Cultural Center. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my bunk. Number two, the patio was covered. So we would have been dry anyway.

See, this is what y'all get for scheduling it at a time when I'm not available. No no, I keed, I keed. The rain sucked yesterday, and it was still crowded at Taste of Chicago. Remind me not to go next year, by the way.
Anyhow, I'll hopefully see you kids at the next one.

What got me was Rahm's warmth, Iron Mike's quietly humble demeanor and how articulate Ronnie was during the heli tours. MJ even let me beat him at horse.
A fine time had by all. Thank you, dalej42, for getting it put together. It was fun to hang out in a neighborhood I don't get to often, especially during the day, and dope it up in public.
