How to Stop Annoying Mac Keyboard Function: Letters Replacing Each Other

On a PC, by hitting the 'Insert' key in MS Word, letters will 'replace' the proceeding letter, as explained in this link.

A friend has her keyboard suffering from the same problem on a mac, however there is no insert key on modern mac keyboards, so we're stuck trying to fathom out the comparable solution.

any thoughts?

oops, never mind.

http://www.macosxhints.com/comment.p...iew&cid=113378 <--- for Word 2004 (scroll down for word 2008 insructions)

"for Word 2008 is to click Customize Toolbars and Menus on the View menu. Click the Commands tab and select Overtype from the All Commands category. Then you can either add the OVR command to a toolbar or create a keyboard shortcut."
