Mob Doctor - yeah or nay?

I'm still smarting from the cancellation of "Chicago Code," an awesome show about law and order and organized crime in my hometown. But this week debuted a new show (also from Fox network) about corruption in Chicago. I've only seen the pilot so far, but I thought it was awesome. Not as good as Chicago Code (yet), but I have high hopes.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

Bonus discussion topic: the lead actress, Jordana Spiro, was also the lead in another (but very different) Chicago-based show, "My Boys," on TBS. I thought maybe she was a local gal who refused to work outside the Windy City, but no, a quick IMDb search shows that she is a Manhattan native, so that is probably just a coincidence.

The wiki page makes me roll my eyes:

The series follows Grace Devlin, a surgical resident, who is balancing a double life, the life of a surgeon and the life of protecting her family from the mob. She has to try to save people's lives, and then has to deal with the consequences of telling the mob that she would pay off her brother's debt, basically making it so that she would kill anyone that they demand, and if they need her to help stitch someone up, she has to be there. She also has to try to keep her secret life a secret from her mother, and her co-workers.

The premise is so absurd I have no interest in watching it myself, but it's gotten slammed by the critics -- I wouldn't get too attached if I were you.

At last! A show with an even stupider premise than Hogan's Heroes.

But at least Hogan's Heroes was funny.

The first episode absolutely bombed in the ratings (1.5 in the 18-49 demo). If you're looking for a show to add to your regular rotation, this is not the one.

It's a perfect title for a parody.

I saw the advertisement for it just a few days ago, and had to struggle to keep from laughing out loud. I can just imagine, the pitch: "Think about it, Dave, the most reliable hit shows fall into two categories - doctor shows like House, and crime shows like The Sopranos. Logically, the perfect TV show is going to be about a doctor who works for the mob. The only question is whether she should have a puppy, a kid, or a dopey husband."

"If this is a hit, we follow it up by fusing Doctor Quinn, Medicine Woman with Deadwood, and calling it Outlaw Cowboy Doctors in Love."

... So, it's not actually about a mob doctor (that is, a doctor who serves the medical needs of the mob)?

Well, that's a disappointment.

Exactly. If it was about that, a Crime Doctor if you will, I'd watch it.

Just watched the pilot on On Demand. It was awful, won't be giving it a second chance.

You'd think they'd stop casting Zjelko Ivanek in things since he pretty much does a new series every year.

I watched the pilot on TV. I was unimpressed by it. The previews of upcoming episodes looked even worse. It's off my rotation.

I watched the first two episodes but I'm done with it. Crappy premise and it didn't provide anything to improve on it.
