Charley "Fat Neil" Koontz was on a recent episode of Awake and I shouted to Mrs. FtG "It's Fat Neil!". Sorry, that's his character name.

Noticed Vicki sitting in the classroom. So I knew the plot would get to her. But no dancing or Twinkies.

3rd appearance of Michael Kenneth Williams a.k.a "Omar"/"Chalky White". He is seriously funny.

"Uniform."

While this episode packed a huge amount of parody into a half hour, it didn't leave much time for actual Community-style humor. Some of the Abed/Troy interaction, etc. I would have preferred less parody and more of the usual oddness.

I'd say something darkly funny but...

Just watched it again. Abed's tantrum was so hilarious. And there are so many funny lines.

Jeff: "If it's any consolation, she got me here on a very misleading text message."
Annie: "Technically, you are about to be screwed in the biology room."

"Objection, I hate the both of you!"

"Diffuse the IED of dishonesty."

"Boiling water is the icicle stabbing of yam killing."

"Holy crap, we are definitely dissecting pine cones next year!."

I love how a full blown parody episode is simultaneously getting the show back into the classroom, dealing with homework and other students. And what a parody it was, after all the L&O I've watched even the looks the characters gave each other were making me laugh.

I missed the hints to the real culprit the first time:

"Mine just bloomed yesterday."

"For a raw yam to get it this badly you need more than gravity."

Not only was that yet another awesome, all-time great episode but it was like a textbook smackdown of why scripting and editing is so fantastically important in a one-camera show. It made a live episode like the one that 30 Rock did right afterward look like your co-workers staging a skit at the office picnic by comparison.

30 Rock did seem amateurish.

I really enjoyed Annie playing a lawyer. She really got into it.

One of the first times they show Fat Neil, the prof (I think) calls him "Fat Neil" and he says, "Just 'Neil' is fine." It was an allusion to that.

Kinda like whenever anyone calls Starburns "Starburns," he would say, "My name is Alex!"

Thank you! I had no idea - but then, even after you told me I had to look up Dick Wolf, so I guess it wasn't my fault.

Yes, as a software developer, I always hate the way TV characters spout random tech phrases and try to pass it off as meaningful - this was a great gag.

I fear I've come too late to the party to do anything except say "me too" but I thought this was the best episode all year. It was dead-on parody (I have never seen L&O) of crime-law shows and they nailed every bit of it.

Which lead to one of the best lines of the series:

Change: THEN MAYBE YOU SHOULD'VE SHAVED THAT INTO THE SIDE OF YOUR FACE!

I realized when I saw the law and order credits I was going to love the show. Not that I have any special love for L&O, but just that I knew it was going to be a full-on concept episode, and I've grown to love them. Occasionally people complain about how off its premise the show has become but that's fine with me - they often strike gold when they just go all out.

Where is it that Pierce falls asleep in that's adorable? The sunroom? I couldn't quite catch what he said.

It wasn't just that, but also a dead-on parody of the way L&O goes into over-expository mode whenever something techy comes up and they bring in the "expert".

And as others have mentioned the "interview and work" is a classic L&O staple.

A detail I missed until review: Shirley's project for "Advanced Spanish" was to make a pinata.

Greendale is not a good school.

The middle also had a very "Few Good Men" feel to it. When Col. Markham (er, Michael Ironside) got to Starburns and hid him away, the scene with Annie and Jeff felt like it was taken straight from the scene between Kaffee and Galloway talking about their case falling apart. I half-expected Ironside to blurt out "you're goddamn right I did!" at some point.

They even got Col. Markham's insignia right. Those were JAG pins on his lapels, weren't they?

But then, if he was Todd's CO, what was Todd doing disarming an IED?

IED - Interservice Ethical Dilemma

Found in many military courtrooms.

I thought he was Todd's uncle or something. Doesn't he make a comment about telling Aunt Sylvia or whatever?

Yes, he was Todd's uncle, not his C.O. He was in town for a family wedding and was camping on Todd's sofa.

And he was going to tell Todd's mother on him.

Must have been a younger brother.

Loved, loved, loved this episode, and I don't even watch Law & Order.

But what the heck was up with the final scene with Troy and Abed in the bunk beds? I know the "kicker" scene (is that what it's called?) is often something of a non-sequitor, but it usually ties back to the episode in some way in tone or subject. That had nothing to do with anything, and broke the parody to boot. I was confused.

If any episode deserves to be rewatched on a DVR, this is it. However when I've watched it again, I just stop before the final scene. You're right, it doesn't fit.

Who knows? The kicker may relate to the rest of the season instead. Wait for it.....

The kicker was out of place, but still funny.

Maybe that meant it was all a dream or something they cooked up in the Imaginarium-whatsit room?
