I had recently heard that Gallagher (the marginalized comic who smashes watermelons in his act etc.) is actually TWO GUYS; TWIN BROTHERS who split a hectic nationwide touring schedule between them.
This fact is supposedly kept hush-hush because ... I don't know why. Except perhaps that they might only have one guy's worth of talent between the two of them.
Does anyone have any idea if this is true? It's such an unusual story that there would seem to be no reason to make such a thing up.

I think there's a brother who is listed as Ron Gallagher (with the "Ron" always in small type).

I lived across the street from the original Gallagher for a year or so when I was a kid. There was only one of him, although he was interesting enough by himself. He had a very large couch (one f his props)next to his garage, it was as large as the garage. I think it was actually a trampoline, because from time to time we would see him and his family bouncing above the roofline.

aenea: Did you ever catch what Gallagher's first name is? Also, I heard that the original Gallagher is suing his brother over something. Maybe Ron has started claiming that he is THE Gallagher.

I hadn't heard that before Diceman, but apparently it's true. I got the following from Gallagher's official website http://gallaghersmash.com/ :

Quote:
On Tuesday, November 23, 1999, Gallagher and Sold Out Shows, Inc. filed suit against Ron Gallagher, Classic Entertainment, Inc. and Classic Productions, Inc. in federal court in Michigan. The suit alleges, among other things, that Ron Gallagher and his promoters have violated Gallagher's right of publicity and trademark rights and have engaged in false advertising and unfair competition, thereby creating consumer confusion. The complaint seeks a court injunction and damages. The matter is before the court, and our attorneys have advised us not to make further comment.
While this quote doesn't mention the fact, Ron Gallagher is indeed the younger brother of Leo Gallagher, the well-known comedian who filed this lawsuit.

As for Noel and Liam Gallagher, anyone who's ever listened to Rubber Soul knows that neither of them has ever produced any original material.

Little Nemo - slightly off topic, but right on about Rubber Soul and the Gallaghers (Liam and Noel).

It amazes me that a lot of acts today take ONE album from a former singer/songwriter and make a CAREER out of a pale immitation of it.

What is Jewel but a rehash of Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust", and the Bowie discography has been looted.....

There is an original Gallagher who wrote the material and who, to the best of my knowledge, still performs. He has a brother (don't think he's a twin though) who performs, with his brother's permission, the same material under the name Gallagher II. I once read that the original was planning on franchising his act, but I think that may have been satirical. For what it's worth, I believe Harry Houdini and his brother had a similar arrangement.
