Raca?

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca', shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, 'Thou fool', shall be in danger of hell fire.

What does "Raca" mean?

According to the study notes in my Bible (New American, Catholic ed.), it's "an Aramaic word ... probably meaning 'imbecile,' 'blockhead,' a term of abuse." Don't know about you, but I'd say the "probably" is pretty suspicious; maybe the translators don't really know what it means, and they're just guessing from the context. Anybody know if this word appears elsewhere?

Why wasn't it translated like the rest of the bible?

The word "Raca" is Aramaic and means "emptyhead", i. e., someone who has no brains or, alternately, someone who is worthless. It is often translated in modern English Bibles, or at least footnoted.

Put some cheese on top of that Raca empty head, and they become a Cheese Head!
