How do I disable my Windows keyboard?

I keep hitting Windows keys on my keyboard and it crashes my game as it logs out to the desktop : (. I have one that acts as a right click and another that brings up the start menu. Both are equally despised. Is there a way to render these keys non-functioning? Thanks!

If you're the kind of person who does this kind of thing, you could just pop the keys off for the duration of the game. It won't disable them, but it should significantly decrease their surface area.

You could also (depending on the game) reconfigure the keys that you use so that they're further from the Windows keys.

Then again, there's probably a way to do what you want. I don't know it, but someone might....

How do I disable my Windows keyboard?

Pouring a cup of coffee on the keyboard worked for me.

If you have NT/2k, you can do a simple registry hack: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/903/

Or you can use this:

USB, yes? (Even if your existing keyboard is something else, you have USB, yes?)

Pick up a Mac USB keyboard. Attach it (you can daisy-chain USB keyboards if you wish). Use the Mac keyboard to play the game. No Windows key.

Get a standard IBM/Lexmark AT 101 key keyboard with a PS2 connector and without the windows key. Ebay is full of them and they are built 10x better than most keyboards currently sold. I have three in storage.

I have the same problem as my 2-year old likes to play his Mickey Mouse game and basically hammers the keyboard. I downloaded a copy of WinKeyKiller (do a search on Google to find it) and have not had a problem since. It worked on my old Win98 box and works on my XP box now.

Dunno if it's still available for download, but the win95/98 powertools contain a utility to disable the windows key (I don't know if a win2k/XP version is available). I found it worked wonderfully.

Hope this helps,
Max.
