In
this thread,
finagle got upset with
JuanitaTech for spoiling
The Usual Suspects.
In my subsequent post, I was careful to use the spoiler box to cover up spoilers in
The Sixth Sense and
The Others but yet revealed the ending to
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
What sort of guideline should we at the SDMB use for the spoiler box? Common sense says we shouldn't spoil movies that are recent, but
how recent? For example, my little niece (age 9) spoiled
Scooby-Doo for me. Should it be open season once it's out on video?
Maybe we should protect movies with twists, but again, for how long? For example, by now who
doesn't know the twist in
The Sixth Sense, considering that the movie has been out for three + years?
The Others has been out on video for weeks now, and it, too, has a twist? Should we be careful to protect it still? When should we stop caring? Ever?
What are your thoughts on how long, and what kind of movies, should be protected from spoilers in this (and any other) forum?
