During CNN’s coverage of the rememberance ceremony in PA, a crawl went by three times saying “JET THOUGHT TO BE HEADED TOWARD CAPITOL OR WHITE HOUSE”
What the hell is the story behind that? The talking heads are silent – I can understand not interrupting the ceremony – now the ceremony is wrapped up and that crawl still recurrs with no commentary.
Am I misinterpreting this? What the bloody blue etc?

They must mean UA93 “Thought to have been…”

I hope whoever programs the crawler get the undressing they so deserve.
Like most of the dopers, I automatically think of the WTC and the Pentagon when I think of 9/11. I was at my job in Arlington when the Pentagon was hit and it feels so good to see the facade(sp) looking like normal. However, I wish that there would have been more coverage of Flight 93 and its courageous passengers fighting back. I salute those brave men and women.

Well, s/he seems to be pretty low not to have their wheels extended for landing/takeoff.
If it’s landing then the pilot has made balls-up. If it is just a low pass, then man that is low!! Most likely it has just taken off.
I live about 20 min’s fgrom Summerset. I live in Latrobe Pa. I personally am ashamed that America has all but remembered flight 93 and the people on it.

Oh, I don’t know, Blake Stone, I think in fact we do tend to remember Flight 93. If anything, it’s the Pentagon attack that gets somewhat shortchanged: the World Trade Center is where thousands of people died, not to mention that we all saw the unbelievable images over and over again of huge fireballs on the Manhattan skyline and the towers collapsing. Flight 93 is where the passengers fought back–along with the New York City firefighters, they’re most mentioned as the day’s heroes. “Let’s roll!” has certainly entered the national vernacular. Oh, and of course the Pentagon was also attacked.
It’s like The Onion said, who ever would have thought a terrorist attack in which hijackers crashed a commercial jetliner into the Pentagon would practically be on page A3?

Pezpunk, to clarify what happened was-- during coverage of the memorial service in PA, the “crawl”, which typically is used to display breaking or developing stories not necessarily related to the main video, repeatedly said “JET THOUGHT TO BE HEADED TOWARD CAPITOL OR WHITE HOUSE.” For a very long fifteen or twenty minutes, possibly more, I failed to understand that the crawl was referring to UA93 itself, a year ago. My confusion likely stemmed from [ul][li]Being used to the “crawl” referring to events unrelated to the story being broadcast[]The phrasing, which was unfortunately in present-tense[]Being sleep-deprived and generally keyed-up.[/ul][/li]

That’s ok, everyone has their off day’s. I was listening to Howard Stern on the 12 and some lady apperantly wrote in an e-mail to him that she was upset about their 9-11-02 show. Ya see, the broadcast 2 hours of live show, then for the last 2 hours they just rebroadcast the oroginal 9-11 show. This lady apperantly turned on the radio and heard that 2 planes had just struck the tower’s and all, and she thought it was actually happening. She thought the tower’s were rebuilt and that it was ANOTHER attack on them.
You know, I had a pretty good breakfast that morning. That’s usually what I think of.
Personally, I’d like to hear more about what actually happened on that flight and whether it was passengers that brought it down. Like many of the 9/11 stories, too much doesn’t quite add up and there hasn’t been anything like the kind of public investigations you might expect…
I’m pleased to see that nothing else happened this 9/11 though, because that would have thrown the world into further turmoil, no doubt.
Martiju, I don’t have time to find a cite for this, but it came out the other day that the two F-16s which were scrambled to intercept Flight 93 were on a training mission and hence unarmed. Which means, that if they were going to bring down the plane, they most likely would have had to slam themselves into the passenger jet. That didn’t happen, so obviously, the passengers fought back and the jet crashed because of their actions.
Yep that pic looks a bit strange, but I think its on another strip that banks down and is obscured.
Gee, I’m really sorry that there weren’t tiny video cameras capturing what must have been an absolutely terrifying scene on board Flight 93 so that your apparent conspiracy:rolleyes: theories are now allowed to joyously scamper freely through your mind.
A former co-worker of mine was on Flight 93.
You want to know what happened?
4 people hijacked the plane, killed or disabled the pilots and then proceeded with their plan to fly the plane into an anknown target, presumably in Washington DC.
However, because of the heroic measures of the other passengers on Flight 93, the hijackers were unable to fulfill their mission.
The flight ended in a horrific crash in a field outside of Shanksville PA with the loss of life of everyone on board.
THAT is what happened.
