What's the fastest network?
It was this thread that prompted me to ask this question. Now (November 2002) Is there a network which claims to be the world's fastest? Who requires a fast network? Have any Dopers used a world leading network? What are your experiences of using advanced networks? Do hi-tech wide-area networks fail more often than conventional networks? I might as well start. I ran a speed test, and it said 219.5kbps, however it's supposed to be 2Mbps.
However, according to this slide it may be 10Mbps. Do a Google Search for SuperJANET + fast for relevant sites. Any other Dopers on very fast networks? |

You can get ATM connections at 155mbps for WAN or even faster if you have OC-3 or above. Locally, I haven't heard anything faster than Gigabit Ethernet in widespread use. You can of course run several of these in parallel for an increase in speed.
OC ratings: OC-1 = 51.85 Mbps OC-3 = 155.52 Mbps OC-12 = 622.08 Mbps OC-24 = 1.244 Gbps OC-48 = 2.488 Gbps OC-192=9.952 Gbps |
