I signed up for the meteorological newsletter that someone hear recommended when we were talking about northern lights.

Just got an e-mail written in another language (scientific) but I think they're saying that folks in the northern U.S. might see some northern lights tonight and early Wednesday morning.

Just a heads up.

Unless I read this wrong and they're really saying the sun will come up - tomorrow, tomorrow ....

that was me, and I got the letter, too.

Reports of sightings are supposed to be at http://solar.uleth.ca/www/auroras.html but there are none yet.

Also, it's cloudy here in Chi, so I won't see anything anyway.

Phaedrus -- I am so glad for you. I've only seen them once -- just the green ones -- but hardly anyone I talk to has seen them at all, so it still feels kinda special.

We were clouded over here, so who knows what was in the sky last night.

Were they visible for a long time?

Auntie Pam: I don't know how long they were visible cuz I only watched for about a half/hour. Thanks to you I know that I have seen them three times though.

The first time I saw them was when I lived in PA. They were AWESOME!!!!!! All the colors and it went on for hours, like curtains of shimmering light, just gorgeous!

The second time was a couple of winters ago but they were so different I didn't know what they were. We live about 5 miles from Lake Erie and late at night (about 1 o'clock) I saw that the whole Northern Sky looked like it was on fire. There was a light cover of clouds that made it look like several of the chemical plants down near the lake had caught fire. I just couldn't figure out why I never heard any firetrucks.

Then I went out to see if I could see them after reading your thread.

It was the same thing! It was so cool! But the time in PA blew the last two away. Since I was very glad to see them. Thanks a lot!!!

Why no, I'm not feeling particularly active tonight. It was a really long day at work, and...

What?

Oh. Sorry.

I'm heading to Alaska in February and will be there for 2 weeks. I have told my fiance that he better have the lights turned on when I get there.
