I'm not a regular here, but I do watch Trek hoping it'll get better one day...

But you guys have been blinded by all the terrible epsodes if you thought this one was actually good. It's another played out old epsiode from other Trek franchises. OK, maybe the ending was a bit less predictable, but the "suspension-of-belief-o-meter" was just as far off the scale this time as for other episodes.

And, as has been mentioned, we didn't even get to see T'boobs and Hoshi go thru decontamination.

And next week's epsode-- how are they going to explain the lack of knowledge about that in later Trek series? Some kind of mind erasure technique? I guess we'll see...

I thought about throwing Janeway in there too but while Voyager was a badass little ship, it's nothing compared to the awesomosity of the Prometheus.

Nah, Pike looked like he was only in his mid-30s during The Cage. Since The Cage took place 13 years before the main setting of ST:TOS, that would put The Cage at around the year 2253 or so. Enterprise is now in the year 2152. If Captain Pike were a toddler on board the NX-01, he'd be over a century old by the time of Tha Cage !

Next week on Enterprise, Data's cat, Spot, goes through a wormhole and is met by the Enterprise crew, and joins Porthos in defeating an alien threat that only affects sentient creatures. It's and Enterprise Event: Fleagenitor!

I ... uh ... actually felt sorry for Wesley Crusher. Here he was, a superintelligent Ender Wiggin, but nobody would listen to anything he had to say because he was "just a kid." He saves the whole freakin' ship in "The Naked Now," for crying out loud, and everybody still looked down their noses at him afterward!

I think Wesley should come back from his trip with those "traveller" aliens with a huge space armada at his command and enslave the Federation. It'd serve them right.

Um, this thread has gone a bit astray, but I just wanted to throw in my $.02 on the subject.

I sort of knew the Cogenitor wasn't going to make it out alive, but I figured it would probably die during the insemination process. Think about it. If the actual conception somehow caused the death of the Cogeniter (think Preying Mantis...) then it would make sense to keep them as unaware as possible. I did like the episode very much, but I'm not a frequent Enterprise viewer. I go more for TOS and TNG.

All in all, one of the better hours I've spent in front of the box.

Trip hasn't just killed somebody — he's rather badly screwed up relations between humanity and this new species. You just know this little escapade is going to be headline news back on the alien homeworld. "First contact! They're called humans! They meddled in our culture, killed a cogenitor, and robbed a couple of an unborn child! Next on v'Fox!"QUOTE]

Not just me!

it's explained that the cogenitor goes to from couple to couple, no doubt, deliberatly excreting enzyme scent into the air so as to arouse the males and females, the little strumpet !

anyway, it would've been interesting if "it" died in the act of insemination, but they don't. They make up only 3% of the popuation.

still lol at this

btw, Tripppp robbed not just one couple, but the ones "it" would have serviced after done with them. As the couple stated, "Do you know how long we've had to wait for a cogenitor?"

Obviously they're sought after. I wanna see Phlox's photos !!

And chocolate.
That's lots of sought after.

Hey, zoogirl - Along the lines of your idea, it would be pretty neat if there was a HUGE EVIL CONSPIRACY, and, as you suggest, the congenitors died after insemination, but the aliens didn't want to admit that to the humans (say, they picked up on the fact that humans wouldn't like the idea, and maybe they needed something from the humans, like trilutherium alloy, or whatever, so they wanted to not make a faux pas), so, to make things look better, they LIED about the cogenitors being 3% of the population, and getting passed aroud, when in REALITY, single-use cogenitors were farmed on huge COGENITOR FARMS!

Oh, no!

But Trip learns the truth, and no one believes him because the alien guys are so friendly and all, and Malcolm gets laid, and Archer gets to drive the solarpod thingy, and all this time, Trip's all freaked out about the disposable congenitors and the farms and stuff.

Then Wesley dies.

That would be cool.

Well, I thought it was going to be along the lines of your idea, zoogirl, but I kind of got carried away. Sorry about that. Yours was better.

I interpreted this to mean that Cogenitors were rare onboard starships, but might be relatively common on Vissia. After all, if you're going to be in deep space for several months, and there's only one couple on board your ship that needs Cogenitation services, the government is going to be reluctant to allocate a Cogenitor to you.

Well, they did say cogenitors were only 3% of the population. What their specific involvement is in the reproductive process, well, that's vague. If they have to be around for a few weeks so they can internalize the hormones of the male and the female and produce an appropriate enzyme, that's one thing; it's another thing if they're shuttled from couple to couple and are needed for only an hour for conception to take place. We can hypothesize, but I don't think there's enough evidence in the episode to come to a solid explanation.

Yeah, that bummed me out - I would have liked more details of the Vissian reproductive system.

No, you punks, not because I'm a perv. I'm just curious is all. My perviness is totally seperate and disctinct from my scientific curiosity.
And I wanted to make fun of them for screwing up with their biology. Only I can't, because they never TOLD us anything.

How come there wasn't a feather boa wearing pimp pushing the cogenitor out to Enterprise's crew? Then we'd get to see a pimp fight as alien pimps start smacking around Trip 'till he goes all Feral Trip on them.

it would've been interesting if the cogenitors had been sex-obsessed promiscuous brainless beings (insert favorite offensive joke here) and Trip didn't find out until he's alone to try to 'educate' one and He gets the education hehe.

I know this thread is going downhill fast, but hey, it's a fun ride straight to the gutter

The best part of the show was watching Archer's testicles finally drop and give Tripp what fer. Too bad it took a death to get him to that point rather than being a hardass military type.
Archer's a captain, not the crew's best friend. I'm certain he'll turn back into Mister Softy by next episode and nobody will remember anything.
