So, I've been looking for artwork for my daughter's room. Not Disney-esque or anything cartoonish. My plans are to paint and decorate her room ONCE before she discovers BOYS (or Girls, for that matter.) and covers her walls with gawd awful posters.
Primarily, my goal is nice soft colors on the wall ( muted mulberry) and by changing the artwork, I change the room.

Yeah, I know, Get to the friggin' Point, Shirl... Anyways, I have this art catalog
(www.basilstreet.com) that caters to upscale reproductions of world class art. I have about 10 paintings in here I really like. But at $295.00 each or more, it ain't gonna happen.

SOOOO. Since this catalog prints little blurbs about where the painting is from originally, I decided to contact each museum and ask if they carry the individual print I am looking for. ( or post cards. Post cards are a cheap alternative too.)

I just wanted to share my genius with everyone.

Hey Shirley, good luck on the walls, my oldest daughter(12 at that time) had 750 posters of Hanson on her walls, ceiling, and if she could have placed them on the floor, she would have. They are finally down(she is 14 now), but for how long we don't know!!!

Yeah, the kid put up like 400 of those little glow star stickers on EVERYTHING. Little stars. Well guess who had to take them off? Yep, it took hours & most of the stupid stars wouldn't come off without some of the drywall with them. They wouldn't come off the windows either unless used a razor.

PS: You can rent framed art prints, free, from a library. Or get them cheap like a dollar or two from thrift shops.

It's probably the wrong time of year, but try looking for calendars too.

When I was pregnant, I was having an awful time trying to find tasteful (read: NOT cutesy crap) pictures to hang in the nursery.

I found an extra large Geddes calendar and ripped out the three B&W pictures that weren't obnoxious, had them professionally framed, and I get nothing but compliments.

I also wandered into Papyrus (upscale Hallmark) and saw a sheet of wrapping paper that had cartoon animals in blocks about 5"x5" square. I bought the sheet for $2, cut out one of each animal block, and framed them. Hung them on the wall in a group, looks fantastic!

Postcards are a great idea! I never even thought of it!

Another thing I have always wanted to do, but never get around to (being the Mom of a 14 month old) is frame the outfit I brought Sammi home from the hospital in. It's white, and would look killer in a black on black frame. Conversation piece too.

Given your input on the frugal corner thread I'm surprised that a true cheapass like yourself is going to PAY for artwork. I got some great new movie posters just for asking at the video rental shop. You can also dumpster dive if they won't give them to you.

Calenders are a great idea. I have scads of them that I refuse to part with to use them as future artwork ideas ( or eventually craft projects for the kids.) once I decide on a Theme for my kitchen. Right now that theme is Chaos.

As for the bookmarks, thanks. I am looking into them.

BTW, one of the illustrious and highly rewarding careers I've had in my life was working at a video store. I have about 30 movie posters that I will not part with and I am too cheap to frame. And I 'm not so sure how appropriate 9 1/2 weeks poster would be on the walls of an infant, right next to Prizzi's Honor and The Godfather.
