By popular demand we're reviving Classic Threads, only (a) we're changing the name to Threadspotting because the PTB thought we already had enough Classics, and (b) to make it easier on ourselves, it's going to consist of a link directly to a thread on the SDMB rather than attempt to quote. We're also going to revive Weird Earl's (weird, cool, funny or otherwise interesting stuff we found on the web) as a separate feature.

TubaDiva is hereby appointed goddess in charge. If you have a thread you want to nominate, post a link here. Please e-mail any Weird Earls directly to Tuba at tubadiva@aol.com so you don't spoil the surprise.

Excellent. I always enjoyed the "Classic Threads." I do have a question though. What the heck is a "Weird Earl?"

Just as a clarification, what exactly does the progressive tense mean in this case? Does it mean that the revival of Classic Threads has already begun, and they are now available, or does it mean that you have already begun the process of reviving them, and they will be revived some time in the future?

On the home page, up there by the links to the columns and such, there used to be a link to a synopsis of one of the message board threads. Some of them were quite funny and they were a good method of putting the sarcastic humor of the TM on display. It looks like Ed now wants to link straight to the thread in question, rather than forcing some poor staff member to wade through it and write a summary.

Weird Earl's = weird URLs. I gotta explain EVERYthing to you guys.

This revival is currently in progress. Give me about half an hour, then we can use the present perfect tense.

I'd like to nominate a classic thread (though it might not be over yet), because it has an interesting discussion.

Challenging Probability Question

Or are we looking for threads that are humourous?

Memorable. We're looking for memorable. Memorably funny, memorably intelligent, memorably whatever you got.

Well, a good place to start looking would be Sunbear's Classic topics Hall of Fame.

As I posted there:

My favorite thread, the one that really drew me in to this board was "How to kill evil Nazi groundhogs." http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/004725.html
If any thread is memorable, that the Nazi Groundhogs one is.

This is the thread that turned me from an occasional poster into someone who cared devoutly about this board:

Why Pray?

It's one of the best religious discussions I've been a part of, anywhere, anytime.

I'd like to second the nomination for the "How to kill evil Nazi groundhogs" thread. Hilarious and extremely entertaining!

And I'd also like to add Inky's topic describing thistacky nativity scene. I had a hard time reading it through the tears streaming down my face.
