Why is HTML turned off?

I'm none too fond of the UBB code, considering it's infopop's attempt at reinventing the wheel.

We had a couple of bad experiences with what people could do with HTML, so it's toast on this board. The UBB code is limited, but it's not hard to master, so have at it!

Out of curiousity, what? Off the top of my head, the only thing I can really think of is putting in some malicous javascript, or a java applet, but that can be rather damagin.

Oh, UBB code is almost exaclty like HTML, except they use brackets instead of greater than/less than signs. That's what prompts me to say they're reinventing the wheel: almost the same syntax, exact same funcitonality.

It just bugs me, because when I want to "bold" something, my natural inclincation is to reach for the greather than less than signs, not the brackets. Have to fight three or so years of conditioning.

They used html to disrupt the operation of the board. Screwed with stuff until the techs got tired of fixing other people's messes and took html away.
