Ha, exactly what I was thinking.

For anyone about to post guesses as to what the song might be, please note this thread is from 2004 so, barring a time-traveling DJ, AHunter3 is not describing anything released within the past eight years.

Thanks, I had been reading this unaware it was a zombie and wondering about all the midi files being linked to and so forth. It makes way more sense now.

I didn't notice the date, obviously it's not the Train song I suggested that came out 8 years after the OP.

Man, I hope it's that. A zombie thread that turns out to be about song from a band called Zombie Nation? Classic.

Second post, I thought: "Why the hell doesn't he just link to YouTube?"; then the third post, mentioning (let alone linking to) a midi file, I realized I was dealing with something from bygone days...

No idea who is singing, but it reminds me of a folk song I heard as a child, probably in the sixties.

Ah ah ah ee ee ee

Thanks, but unless Train was using a time machine to deluge the top 40 stations in 2004 with their 2012 vintage music, ... **goes and listens anyway** nope, not it.

Nope. And interestingly enough, I was just thinking about this a month ago or so! I'm writing an autobio and I got to 2004 in June.

It's funny how unanswered questions tend to continue to annoy. I haven't heard it in all these intervening years so I think it was indeed some DJ shtick or some similar thing cobbled together for that radio station alone.

Of course admittedly I don't spend much time listening to top 40 music, nor do top 40 stations tend to play lots of golden oldies, do they?

Would a Top 40/pop station in 2004 be playing that 10-12 times a day?

It's a dancehall song. I know that much for a fact. Now, it will haunt me until I think of it.

I am certain that it is a dancehall song, but I'm not certain if that melody you sang is a part of the riddim or a part of the lyrics. If it is part of the riddim then there are lots of songs with that exact same music. If it is part of the lyrics, then it can only be one song. I am going to figure this one out.

I crack up when I listen to AHunter3 sing it. I crack up, because he is committed. He is letting his voice swell and build to a crescendo, and he isn't just phoning it in at all. He could totally just give us the gist of it without putting his diaphragm into it, but nope. He is all in.

I am not sure if they are saying 'gal' or 'gone'. I know the name of the song is 'gal yuh a lead' but it sounds as if he says, "Gooonnnnneee" and then "Leeeaaddddd".

Pretty sure he is saying "gal you a gone. Gal you a lead". Basically that she is number one, first place.

I had never heard of this song before, but I think Nzinga must be right. Not only does it sound like AHunter3's song, Wikipedia confirms that it was a modest hit in the US in 2004 -- it made the Hot 100, and was within the top 40 on the US rap and R&B charts.

I love this from beginning to end. The original mystery, the WTF aspect of figuring out why everyone is linking MIDI files instead of just going to YouTube, the disappointment of finding that it is a zombie thread and therefore the OP won't remember anything about this song at all, followed by, BAM! OP does remember the song and even sings the song on YouTube. And then the mystery is solved! 8 years later!

Some days, this message board delivers.

Now I'm interested in the mysterious Tibiacity whose post resurrected this zombie thread. This is that person's ONLY post. So Tibiacity somehow finds this 8 year old thread (how?) and registers to post that they heard something similar on the radio the other day. Fascinating. Tibia, if you're sticking around, what did you do, Google "aaaah eeeee" or something?

Probably because you heard it so often then, and also, now you can hear the entire song instead of just the part that was annoying you.

I think it's OTA

By happenstance, I had the radio on while reading this thread.

Based on the notes, I was humming the tune, and lo and behold, the same tune started playing on the radio. At least it was the first part of the song used a s the lead-in to a sports talk show. The announcer said the song was a club version of OTA.

I found a non-club version on You-Tube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qcZp4v2NSs

It seems that OTA refers to an Officers Training Academy of the Union Public Service Commission (India).

It's not OTA.

I realize you probably didn't read the whole thread before posting, or you'd have seen that the song has been found, courtesy of Nzinga, Standing's great ears and presumably deep library of dancehall songs she knows. But note that I said it was in a minor key. What you linked to is in a major key. It starts on the 3rd. It goes G, F, e-flat, while the chords are establishing it to be in the key of E flat major. it has passing chords in B flat major. I'd characterize the vocalizations as "oh", not "aaah" and "eeee".

Well I guess it's no worse a guess than "I told the witch doctor"!

EDITED TO ADD: and again someone registers and posts to this thread as their only post?! Did this thread get linked to somewhere out there in the Great Beyond or something?

Could be , we got a lot of traffic from a mention of the death pool thread from Leo Laport in the TWiG (This Week in Google) show.

I saw the title and thought of "Mine" by Taylor Swift.

Then I saw the posting date and realized Swift was 13 years old at the time this thread started.

Has the OP considered the possibility that he may be from the future?

Sung somwhat expertly by this kid from New Jersey USA.

Szabrocki, no, that's not it. But! Dancehall reggae being what it is, there is a dancehall reggae song on that riddim, too. Several. My favorite is from an artist called Busy Signal. Yes, that's right. Busy Signal is his name.

Sincerely,

The OP may be describing a violin and mistaking it for a voice. The song is probably a violin concerto. Why that would been played over and over on a pop radio channel is another mystery but people and radio stations were weird in 2004.
