Who's listening to Air America?

Keeps going in and out on me! Hopefully that means heavy traffic.

Great to hear Al over the waves.

I gave up when it kept going out on me. We don’t get radio reception in the building where I work, so I’ll pretty much never get to listen.

I’m trying to listen to it, but as seems to be the general case, it keeps going out on me.

Farkin’ lefties!

Putting this on Satelite (which I don’t have) Radio ticked me off. Now, I find out that the Internet stream is only via that Leftie-Pinko-Commie RealPlayer is just so darn un-American!

Fark a farkin duck! If a conservative was in charge of this, you’re darn tootin’ it’d be on a real radio station that generates revenues!

MeanJoe

Yea, yea. Even though I’m a conservative I was hoping to listen in. Keeping an open mind and all that.

I’m thinking it may get easier after a few days. After the initially curious have made way for us serious bleedin’ hearts.

Isn’t Air America supposed to be on regular AM radio in four (five?) major cities as well? I keep scanning my AM band here in Los Angeles, but can’t find anything…

According to the web site http://www.airamericaradio.com/

New York - WLIB 1190 AM
Los Angeles - KBLA 1580 AM
Chicago - WNTD 950 AM
Portland, OR- KPOJ 620 AM
Inland Empire, CA- KCAA 1050 AM
Minneapolis MN - WMNN 1330AM
The O’Franken Factor from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

XM Satellite Radio - Channel 167

I’m listening on http://www.super62.com/jacor-common/pdx/streaming.php

(It’s non-Real Player and I’m having no problems.)

Hey, this is great! Thanks for the non-RealPlayer link!

Of course, my conservative-leaning brain is about to explode from the combination of Frankin and Michael Moore at the same time!!

MeanJoe

I tried that link, and I have to say RealPlayer sounds very significantly better.

Listened to it a bit while I was running errands at lunch. I have XM, so I can hear it no problem.

Al sounded a bit unsure and nervous at first, which is understandable. The woman with him (Katherine?) seemed very NPR-ish and didn’t want to let him have fun. When Bob Kerry came on, the show picked up quite a bit.

Couldn’t hear the rest, had to work :).

How about Franken, Moore, and Al Gore? Wow!

(The Ann Coultier bits truly suck though. Disappointing. Oh well.)

Haha, yea I heard some of the show with Gore too. No explosion yet but the scent of burning hair is getting distinctly stronger here in my office.

To be Fair and Balanced, Rush Limbaugh also makes my head want to explode and as a Conservative Republican I am supposed to just agree with everything he says.

MeanJoe

I am!

I like it. It’s interseting and funny at times.

I caught the O’Franken Factor earlier today. Mostly serious (and educational, too!) with Bob Kerry, seriously funny with Michael Moore and Al Gore, and not too much Nader-bashing. Now I gotta tape Chuck D’s morning show tomorrow. Seems like they’ve been pairing up famous guys (Chuck D, Al Franken) with not so famous chicks. Whatever. It’s nice to have a radio alternative to the conservatives.

I am now. Thanks for the link to listen. Not on regular radio here in seattle yet.

I listened to a bit today, mostly the first hour of Franken’s show. I wasn’t impressed, but I’ll certainly give it more chances, as it was only the first day. But if it turns out to be just a bunch of partisan yakking, I won’t listen. I don’t care if it’s lefty yakking or righty yakking–the tendency to treat complex issues and problems as purely black and white affairs is highly annoying.

It would be nice to have a talk-radio option other than NPR. (WOR has some interesting programs, like Arthur Schwartz) I’m eager to hear Chuck D.'s program.

Anybody know where I could find a schedule of programs?

I caught Franken’s show on WMNN in Minneapolis. I thought he got some pretty good shots at Bill O’Reilly with the 'Zero Spin factor" thing. I agree the Coulter bit was forced and weak but the interview with Bob Kerry was good, as was the one with Michael Moore.

I’m not sure I just want to hear a bunch of preaching to the choir every day, though. That wouldn’t be any more useful or informative than right wing radio. I would prefer to hear some real debates going on.

Franken had both G. Gordon Liddy and Ben Stein on as guests today and either of those guys would make good counterparts for Franken on a regular basis.

Funny thing about Air America is, if someone, ANYONE had offered Al Franken his own AM radio talk show back in 1979 or 1980, he’d have scoffed at the idea! He’d have told you that AM radio was a dead medium with no future. He’d have considered a radio talk show BENEATH him.

Twenty-five years later, after numerous conservative commentators proved that there was a large, untapped audience for political talk radio, Al Franken is jumping into talk radio himself. Will he succeed? I don’t think so, and I’ll tell you why: because he STILL thinks talk radio is beneath him, and that shows.

Now, I NEVER thought Al Franken had any talent. Back in the 1970’s, long before I had the slightest idea what his politics were, I dreaded Franken’s appearances on"SNL" (as soon as Franken & Davis made an appearance, even rabid “SNL” fans like me decided it was time to go to bed). But hey, opinions vary, and there might be enough people out there who find him funny to make his show a hit. However, what dooms his show is his smugness. Even people who agree with him, who WANT to love his show, who are EAGER to hear a leftist vocie on the radio, will get bored with him quickly, and tune back to NPR.

I’d like to listen, but NYC sucks for AM radio reception…
