If they stonewall the 9/11 report, can they hold the election?

asked if America will be able to see the report before the Nov 2 election, Mr Kean answered: ‘I have no guarantees.’ – AFP

As Crawford lays the groundwork to send americans to the polls in continued blissful ignorance, does this news add any weight to the concerns of those who fear the aborting of democracy via state of emergency, grounded in a real or contrived terror incident?

Would they dare to hold an election while sitting on the report? Am I the only person who thinks that would be a fatal political stumble?? And since Karl Rove does not stumble, is he already designing the uniform for the New Empire?

(Actualy, the uniform was designed by Stormin Norman’s father, for the NJ State Troopers–it was picked up by Goering, who liked the tailoring…true story.)

Sad to say, but Bush could rape a Persian kitty cat on live national TV, and a few thousand less than half the population would say, “well, yea, it was a terrorist, so it deserved it.”

If you aren’t anti-Bush yet, it is safe to say that a little detail like withholding the investigation that they tried to block repeatedly and restrict information from to this day without blinking won’t dissuade you from voting Bush in November.

Whoa, someone didn’t properly adjust their aluminum beanie today!

A) Let us enter a paranoid-delusional world for a moment, and assume that GW intentionally sabotages the 9/11 committe’s work, pushing the date the results are released until past the elections. So fricking what? Outside of wild conjecture, how would that have any impact on whether or not (in the same paranoid world) GW suspends elections or whatever? If the fellow is going to pull a Julius, the release date of some report should be the absolute last of your concerns.

Regardless, since the Commission is supposed to release its findings on July 26, let us assume that they say that they need more time. Would you deny them the time? Would denying them additional time keep GW from unleashing TOTAL DOOM WAR on America?

B) Regarding the uniform stuff blabbed about: What the fuck?

C) When people do not capitalize, especially the first word of a sentence, the terrorists win.

You are aware of course, that the WH is going to vet every line of the report after it is released. How long do you think that will take?

As for putting off the election, there is nothing in the constitution that speaks to that.

Comrade Reeder, I have no doubt that the report will be toyed with and passed through a ‘National Security’ filter. But linking that report to a coup? Me no get it.

Great post Brutus.

A better question than asking if the election will be held (it will), would be to ask why we are holding an investigation during a war effort?

Congress approved the war based upon the same information as was available to the Bush administration. All the 9/11 Commission is achieving, besides spurring sales for Clarke’s historical fiction, is to provide grandstanding opportunities for career politicians.

The government waited until after WWII was concluded to investigate Pearl Harbor. That was a wise decision then. It would be equally wise not to put our policy and strategy on display for foreign consumption now.

First of all congress went to war on the word of Bushco. Some handpicked congressmen may have seen some of the evidence, but not very many.
As for Pearl Harbor…take your pick

The Knox investigation

The Roberts Commission

The Hart Investigation

The Army Pearl Harbor Board

Ths Navy Court of Inquiry

And there were several more…now you were saying?

not having mastered the quote box, I will try to freestyle this.

re:vetting, i thought that the sentence quoted from Kean covered the ground. It references events AFTER the report is signed off by the commission, but BEFORE publicatioin. Card is to head a committee to fine tooth the report. Might take months, ya feel me?

Re:uniform remarks. Sorry. I thought everyone knew that the storm trooper uniforms (no, not star wars kids, the German ones) were lifted verbatim from the uniforms that Norman Schwarzkopf Senior had designed for the New Jersey Highway Patrol, during the period of his superintendancy thereof. It’s a little New Jersey joke…)

Scenaria for cancelled election.

(Foil beanie on)

It;s october. 31. Iraq is in full blown civil war, with border clashes between kurdish militia and turkis troops as well. We have 200 K plus troops pinned down, and we are losing 20 a day.

(Stay with me now).

At home, the comissiion report is still being withheld, but leaks indicate it will skewer dub in his kishkas.

An impeachment motion is pending from Nancy Pelosi, and polls in the nation show both houses and the big house going strongly dem.

On November 1 a series of fertilizer based bombs rock the transit systems of la, ny, boston, fill in the blank you get my idea

(it is not germane to this discussion to consider whether these are set off by al q or al arbusto)

Save you voters pamphletsl, my fellow americans you will need them just as soon as the state of emergency is over…

Sorry to do a little threadjack, but since when are insults and grammar corrections “good debating?” I guess I should take note.

As for

Big fricking what. Not everyone in the country is ready to strap on the flag and march off to battle out of an almost-psychotic obsession with George W. Bush. Some people, believe it or not, are open to questioning his motivations and statements, and, while it may stretch your imagination to comprehend this, some people are even actually interested in the objective report on 9/11 before lining the Arabs up against the wall and splattering their collective brains onto the adobe.

I know you aren’t used to asking for the truth unless a “demoncrat” is in the Whitehouse, but surely, you can’t be that brainwashed… can you?

Oh, so your glorious leader starts invading random countries, and because of this we aren’t allowed to look at why? Gee, I can’t see how anyone would construct fascism from that. But it’s OK - we’re at war.

/registered Republican, so neer to your leftie bashing

turning, in reverse order, seriatim, to partner Z’s remark, jesus i wish it weren’t true but you could be right. In a way, I hope so, because I strongly see the geopoliticals as described, and I don’t want a FLAGRANT fascism here (the one we have is bad enough…)

but I will say that, unlike the aptly selfstyled brutus, I do not take for granted the legitimate passage of power from this crowd, not least on account of how they got it in the first place, (may I remind y’all)

at GW intentionally sabotages the 9/11 committe’s work,
dost thou doubt, gentle Brutus
the present compass of his devious art?
that he already has his dagger
deeper e’en than thine in mighty Caesar
jammed directly up the hole
whence Tom Kean daily doth relieve himself?

amendment to scenario:

sorry, I forgot to mention Yahweh.

Yahweh, in the middle of all the above, is telling dub that he will not be happy if dub permits himself to be voted out of the crusader’s saddle, as it were. Or, anyway, dut thinks he is hearing from Yahweh to that effect.

No, it doesn’t. But I’ll tell you what. I’ll offer you 1,000:1 odds at any amount you want to wager that the election will be held on the first Tues of Nov. Care to back up your paranoia, or do you prefer the safety of the critics corner?

To think that the election will not be held as scheduled is rampant, clueless paranoia.

C’mon, guys! There are enough real problems to debate without constantly bringing up silly and then even more silly conspiracy theories.

PS: Now that I see the post by John Mace: If he can’t cover all your bets, I’ll pick up the rest of that action.

I will subscribe to any two of the three, but not rampant AND clueless AND paranoia.

Ok.
It’s a little on the edge, I grant you.

But taking a different approach, could you in your imagination, (knowing that there once was a man named Gordon Liddy) hypothesize any person within the political circles of the prez, in or out of office (John Pointdexter, say) who was capable of brainstorming some alternative to losing a landslide election that undid 20 years of patient republican consolidation?

It would stretch any sane persons imagination to envision a scenario such as Alaric puts forward. There is no constitutional provision for delaying elections, report released on time or not.

The original ‘premise’, which you conveniently ignore, is that somehow the delay of the report will facilitate GW launching his FINAL DOOM WAR OF DOOM! on America. If you actually want to stand up for the Grammatically-Challenged One (not that I am a Grammar Nazi, but for God’s sake, make the posts easy on the eyes!), why don’t you address his original point, instead of dancing around and telling us how non-partisan you claim to be?

Do you really take seriously his scenario of intentional bombings, followed by a suspension of the elections? And WHAT THE FUCK was that bit about Goering, New Jersey State Police uniforms, and Karl Rove? If you are Alaric’s self-styled defender, then defend away. I eagerly await your responses.

1,000:1 odds

funny you mention that-I nipped over to ladbrokes to see if they had any line on the cancellation yet–they don’t, and I intend to inquire for purposes of general interest, whether they are willing to give more or less than that.

BTW, they have gw 3/2 for and jfk2/1 against.

heh, remember when everyone was crying about Clinton declaring a national emergency with FEMA and declaring himself President for Life?

Yea, that was pretty funny, too.

Oh, don’t act like you didn’t want to believe it.

What? Don’t believe me? See my .sig for what y’all sounded like.

no constitutional provision for delaying elections,
well, duhh…

That kind of sums it up, partner B.
