U.S. slipping in sciences, except for creation science

U.S. is falling behind in the sciences. And is it any wonder? We aren’t allowed to DO real science anymore. We can’t teach evolution properly. We can’t do stem cell research because, you know, blobs of formless protoplasm with coded protien chains have teenty tiny souls inside… somewhere. If science has a non-P.C. result, our President will cover it up, kill the findings, deep six the truth. And if studies show that anti-depressant drugs in children lead more often to suicide than curing depression, well then those studies just won’t be part of the final research that appears in drug-company funded journals.

If there’s one thing I care about more than anything else, it’s the third pillar of modern liberalism: the liberal scientific revolution. Education coupled with the liberal scientific method for truth: truth put to constant test, constant criticism. And the thing that saddens me most about modern America is to see that being silenced, couched in spin, cut off into carefully controlled channels of approved discourse and propaganda.

Discuss? No: comiserate.

Two things:

First, where does it say anything about creation science in your cite?

Second, would you please take the extra return out of your sig?

Do yourself a favor and turn sigs off. Few of them are necessary. With respect to modern liberalism, if it is politicizing science, then I hope it dies quickly.

Ohhh Sig police! I’m glad I never invested in a sig.

Maybe our news is too regional and biased (one can only hope) But those Aussies seem to be making major medical moments on a weekly basis lately. They are godless types but not bad

Ok that added nothing…but I wasn’t the sig police.

I don’t understand how “modern liberalism” is “politicizing” science.

I’m only going be the OP’s claim about the “liberal scientific method for truth”.

Hey Lib I was just hoping you had something to say that didn’t involve the sig.

sweet! Australia got mentioned! Although I do remember in high school nto being able to do a lot fo experiments in high school, because chemicals were “out”. But hey, I only went ot a public school, and although we have a bigger proportion of students, we only have 40% of the funding!

And mentioned by a Kiwi! So it must be true!..Wankers

Dude, you have the wrong end of the microscope there. The term “the liberal scientific revolution” doesn’t mean Ted Kennedy in a lab coat–Apos is referencing the 19th-century concept of classical liberalism, which emphasizes the rights of the individual to free inquiry in a free market system, unfettered by the chains of religious dogma or state interference.

There’s a certain political party that espouses the same principles . . . on the tip of my tongue. . . has to do with freedom from the state . . .

Then I stand corrected. I apologize, Apos.

Lib, are you complaining about posters not turning off their sigs when your sig appears three times in this thread? Now that’s chutzpah!

You’re mistaken. “Turn sigs off” refers to an option in the user’s profile to turn off the viewing of sigs. Note that the post just above mine complained of too many return characters in the OP’s sig. He can turn sigs off and not have to see them at all. I have no idea why my sig has shown up three times since I can’t see it.

There’s a joke about ethyl alcohol here, but I’m too lazy to come up with it.

Otto, who said creationism was in the cite? Apos saw an article noting a decline of science and innovation in the U.S., and came here to list a few possible causes.

Anyone have a non-subscription link to this? I think it can often be done through Google News, but I don’t know how to find it.

TJdude825: I think this is the article mentioned in the OP, or at least the same story.
