Is bannerfarm.com the newest spyware?

Well I use Spybot, CWShredder, anti-virus software but now it seems I keep encountering this damned pop-up called bannerfarm.com
I did NOT post the complete URL because there is no sense giving them any more publicity than they deserve.
Has anyone been encountering this pop-up? What can be done to get rid of its "popping up" so often?

Do you use a firewall?

Also, which browser. Have you tried or considered an alternative to IE, assuming that is your current browser.

Opera is said to be very good at supressing popups but I use Firefox and have been delighted with it's performance, although I understand others have problems with it.

Yes, bannerfarm is spyware.

A quick google for bannerfarm + spyware reveals, amongst others, this post for manual removal (careful: includes registry editing). Pest patrol software should also remove it, but why pay when you can do it yourself?

And for some reason I keep using IE which is just begging for trouble isn't it?
I do have Firefox and Netscape and should get used to using those.
