I can't say I'm surprised that Mr. Ridge wants to leave; managing anything as huge as the DHS has got to be a headache. And considering how high-profile he is, I can't say I have very many strong feelings about him at all. Much more of a Donald Evans than a John Ashcroft.

Hey, maybe Mr. Ridge's replacement will scrap the colour-coded warning nonsense! That'd be nice.

It makes sense, really. According to Ashcroft, "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved." So I guess we won't need Tom anymore.

I sure hope so, Spree. I wouldn't know how to go through the day without knowing whether it was a Yellow day or an Orange day.

Yes, the sinking ship of a president elected to another four-year term.

The term that I predict, upon conclusion, will have people wondering why the hell they reelected him.

Let's try and stay on topic.

World Eater never said it was sinking.

A ship can be fully afloat and still full of rats.

I propose we replace the color coding for alert levels with easily understood pictograms based on those commonly found on the doors of public conveniences.

A sleeping guy for level one- white, or off-white, or whatever the hell it is that represents "all clear".

Level two becomes a stick figure throwing his hands up.

Level three is a running guy- you know, like "Shit! Anthrax found in FedEx truck!" or something.

Level four could be a person boarding an Air Canada flight (obviously with this expression: )

I always picture Ridge as one of those kids who liked pulling the fire alarm in high school.

From the Associated Press...

Ridge thanked Bush for giving him the opportunity to fight back against terrorists, as did the passengers on Flight 93, who forced their hijacked plane down in a Pennsylvania field.
Let's see, the passengers died fighting terrorists with their bare hands.

Ridge created a silly alert system that became an object of ridicule across the nation.

Words fail me.
