Theodore weighed around 180 in his prime.

So take that you 'two pound Pekingese lover, you.'

My dog's deader than your dog. And forget about burning my dog. He was cremated, too.

Maybe I am posting in some antiquated language that only I can read, or perhaps this is the wrong forum. The Question is "why is Status so important any way."Simple and to the point.

The OP was confusing as written, yes. It was difficult to tell if you meant "why is status so important anyway?" or if you'd mistyped "why isn't status so important any more?"

It'd also probably be best suited to IMHO, as I don't think this could easily be answered as a question with a definitive true answer.

Very much a GQ question with facts to discuss...

Status is important. It's a well defined field of history, sociology, and social biology.

History: Caste systems, monarchies, Marxist critique, fuedalism.

Sociology: Xenophobia, use of power, ostracisim and shunning, cliques, custom and culture.

Social biology: Humans as a pack animal; striving for dominance that leads to passing on genes; instinctual shame; biological reactions to winning and losing; biological features and behaviors that are intimidating or submissive.

Etc., etc....

Peace.

With the clarification that "any more" should have read "any way," this thread is clearly looking for a factual answer and will remain in GQ until such time as it spins off into GD (or other suitable forum) territory.

Status is one way in which societies regulate power among individuals. As SandyHook replied (albeit in smart-assed fashion), status can be a means to secure access to mates (or sex). As Moriah has pointed out, it can be used to determine one's ability to even function within a society.

If some sociologist would like to post a monograph (or a link to one) on the topic, that could be useful. Otherwise, NadaHappyCamper might want to clarify an exact question regarding status.

To most people, status has nothing to do with dog bigness, nor does whether your dog does his bigness on your neighbor's lawn. Dog ferocity, on the other hand, affords status in some neighborhoods. Dogfighting as a gambling medium is illegal in most states, (and rightly so,) but the practice persists. It's a mighty strange way to find your place in the community. Folks like that don't know what a dog is for.

My dog is definitely bigger than most dogs, and probably bigger than yours. We raise Newfoundlands, and even on a diet Angus goes 160, top was around 180.

I just don't consider anything under 25 lbs a dog.

Giving credit where credit's due: Folk singer Tom Paxton wrote the song. Now it'll be in my head all day. Thanks.

Which reminds me, when the hell did people start using "anymore" this way? I've been it around here before.
