I teach a class on morphine synthesis, and always pronounce it with a long e sound, like thee-bane (sorry, don't know linguistic notation). I don't know for sure if this is correct, but I am a chemist so it is possible that I have heard colleagues pronounce it this way and it has stuck in my head.
