Going to Rome in October 2005! EuroDopeFest anyone?

I wasn’t sure, but the old taxing authorities informed me that I overpaid my state and federal income taxes and will be getting money back. Now my horrible saving habits should be overcome enough to make the trip possible.

My sister & I are heading to Rome next October. She’s heard that it is a good time to go: fewer tourists but the weather is still generally good.

I would like to take a jaunt up to Florence just to see the Campanile del Duomo (sp?), because it looks, to me, like the most amazing thing ever.

She wants to see the Sistine (sp?) Chapel & the Vatican.

Other than that I think we’re pretty open to sights & adventures.

When my sisters & I went to Ireland we had such great success meeting the Irish Dopers in Dublin, that I wanted to take the opportunity to meet some of our Italian cohorts.

Frankly, if anybody is close enough to Rome to visit w/ us, then hot damn! let’s meet up.

We’re planning on a week or so. I have two weeks of vacation and want to make the stay as long as possible.

Obviously, there will be plenty to see in the eternal city, so it will be hard to trim the sights into a manageable list. I’m an ancient Rome sort of guy & I suspect she’ll be most interested in later Christian things & buildings.

Regardless, whether you’re in Rome or coming from Finland, make the trip & let’s have a little fun!

p.s. Any advice for travelers on a very small budget will be quite welcome!
