Let us speak of the evils of Christianity.

Let us - whether Christian or not - list what we find evil in Christians and Christianity.

What amazes me about Christianity and Christians is the immense impulse to force their faith on others. Christians for almost 2 millenia have done so. And often killed those who wouldn’t convert.

Christians also feel the call to dominate the world, and inflict great misery while doing so.

I am amazed by the ethos common in more conservative forms of Christianity to resist change. And even persecute those throughout history who tried to advocate change. Remember the Inquisition?

The frustration I see in Christians is amazing as well. They seem so unwilling to tolerate other faiths. Their faith in God is unwavering. And they will do great evil based on this.

This is all I can think of right now (as it is almost 9 in the evening). What say you?

-rfgdxm (and Friedrich Nietzsche): God is dead.

For the record WeRSauron, most Christians I have known I wouldn’t consider evil. I just thought a thread on the other side was appropriate.

I’m as Atheist as they come. But even I think this thread was badly timed and mostly uncalled-for.

Most christians are good-natured and well-intentioned.

A point I conceded previously. As for the timing, what time of year is best for such a thread for those who don’t believe in Christianity?

So does Islam, point being? A majority of religions strive to dominate the globe, its nothing exclusive to Christianity.

Good christians will reply to this thread stating something along the lines of: The wrongs which are precieved as being done in the name of christianity are actually the result of human misinterpretation of the true meaning of the faith.

I’d be inclined to believe they are probably right. But I’ll admit that without religion, there is/are less excuses to do wrong for a cause.
The timing is bad because the title is an obvious counteraction of another GD thread in which christians are reasuring themselves of the good of christianity. It strikes me as offensive to post this thread contradicting the love-in of our esteemed doper-christians.

I’m an agnostic. Agnostics don’t organize to dominate the globe.

This is why I started a new thread, rather that try to hijack the other thread.

Besides, WeRSauron’s thread was itself a reaction to what he perceived as Christianity-bashing appearing in turn in yet other threads, etc. etc. recursively at nauseam, so really, this thread’s points are already being made all over the place. And it’s not like folks will stop doing that just because you now provide a convenient central location to diss the Jesus people.

Biggest problem with Christianity? Not the Christianity itself and not the Christ. It’s the large % of total pricks going around calling themselves “Christians”.

Neither do the vast majority of christians and muslims (and Jews)
They simply strive to live by the laws of their beloved creator. It is a tiny minority of idiots that strive to dominate the globe and eliminate humans who live by opposing religions.

I’ll see your agnosticism and raise you an atheism. I am an atheist who recognises human nature to believe in and love a God. Very few theists are on a mission to rid the world of all who do not subscribe to their religion.

Amen.

If I’ve misundertood any of the points being made by the OP and/or his/her replies I apologise. I am drinking so my replies are in the ill-thought-out-tending-to-be-self-righteous mode. If the OP understands that religion/christianity has done good as well as bad then I have no reason to butt-in to this thread.

It seems to me an extremely tasteless thread to post, at Easter.

Indeed, I acknowledge that religion/christianity has done good as well as bad. I just don’t want to hijack another thread. Salut.

To me this year, Easter is just the 27th of March.

Neitzsche is dead, God is alive. As to speaking of the evils of christianity, guess it depends what you mean by Christianity then, eh?

In the unlikely event this is true, I’m gonna be shocked after I am dead.

Yeah but Einstein, agnostics aren’t a religion.

Do not let this exchange get personal. This is right on the edge of a direct insult and I’m already tempted to turn this into a Warning.

Where are you getting that from? “Most Christians” voted to ban gay unions and gay marriage. How is that good-natured and well-intentioned? It is malicious; no ifs or buys.
