50s-60s crew-cab pickups

Remembering a program on the Discovery Channel or History, the showed an excerpt on SAC…the Strategic Air Command…and how pilots areon a constant state of alert: guys sitting around, playing cards, and the alarm goes off and they all run out to their military issue utility trucks to high-tail it to the airstrip.

I noticed that the pickups were crew cabs…that is, full sized rear doors behind the drivers’ and passenger’s side doors.

I thought the crew-cab concept was a 90’s invention…can someone link to a manufacturer’s options list of that era?

I can’t speak for other makes but Ford introduced its first crew cab in 1969.

I’m pretty sure I seen four door Dodge trucks in the same body style as the '64 I owned.

My uncle Walt had a '65 Dodge Crew Cab Power Wagon. Great truck. My father bought one in the 70’s. I used it all through high school. Those back seats are HUGE!

1967 here, and here. 1953 here, 1969 here, 1964 here. Whew!

Even Volkswagen got in on the crew cab craze.

I too was surprised to ‘notice’ crew cabs in older model years on the road. I guess it is like buying a new car then noticing that there are tons of them on the road.
