Myspace.com Dopers

How many dopers are on Myspace? I know there is a big showing on livejournal and there are organized little SDMB groups and such. Do you have a Myspace blog or profile? If so, post your homepage!!
Is there a SDMB Group yet on myspace? I haven't found one. If there are enough people interested, then I want to start one!

I'll go first.

I'm on it under the name Mercer, but I usually can't be buggered to do anything more than check my messages. Seen too many unbefuckinglievably ugly sites to dig around for people anymore.

Same here. If dopers want to start a group though, I'll join.

I'm on myspace as well. I don't check it as often as I used to though, because my internet has been really screwey.

Plus I don't really like the fact that 50% of the women on there are porn stars and use the site to shamelessly flaunt their website. I want to talk to real people, dammit! Not hookers.

Anyway, my profile is here

I'd definitely join a SD group if someone created one!

Ok, I just created the Group.

It's called SDMB. It needs pictures and stuff, so hopefully we can all make it look nice. It's not an Open group, so only Members can join. But I'll allow lurkers and fans and previous members to join too.

I am on myspace, though I don't use it much. I was dragged on because one of my friends flat out told me that the only way to reliably contact her anymore was via myspace messages. If I wanted us to talk, don't call, don't email, send a myspace message. So I am now a member, but only just. The one cool thing about myspace is what it has done for the local music scene (at least here in LA). Myspace has become a great place for local bands to gain a following since they let you stream music clips on you page. My band is looking to get back together and I have been thinking about getting more involved for just that purpose.

What a pal! I usually end up dropping friends like that, though your mileage may vary.

Sorry for the hijack. We now return to the original broadcast.

I just created an SDMB community on Friendster, as well...
http://www.friendster.com/group/tabm...roup&gid=18506

If that doesn't work, you should be able to search for "sdmb."

I'm on myspace, too. And Friendster. But it appears that myspace is the "in" site, heh. Anyway here I am. I don't blog there, but I'm always keen to add new friends!

Bear_Nenno, how do I join the SDMB group there?

Ok, I sent a message to join. I suppose that means I have to actually complete my profile now (I probably didn't when I signed up originally). I think it'll show me as Laura.

I joined the Friendster group too - first time I've logged into that in months.

Right here, kids! I don't have the time right now, but I do plan on sending some friend invites based on this friend and also joining the group.

Or you could save me the trouble and send me the invites.

There ya go. My band's also on myspace, but we basically use it to save recordings of our practices instead of wasting our own bandwidth (we record them so we can remember little riffs and things we used). If you really wanna check that out, it's under my friends list as "The Dog's Bollocks (the band name)" I'll try to join the SDMB group!

I joined because I thought it would be similar to LJ. But no, everyone on Myspace, that I've encountered, seems to be looking for sex partners rather than friends. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not what I'm looking for.

I won't link to my profile, because one of my "friends" currently has a picture of his weenie as his avatar. These are the type of people who request to be my friends.

Wow, you don't have any control over who appears in your "friends" area? Even if the avatar is potentially offensive? Yeesh! How can they not give you control over something like that? (rhetorical question )

I'm on the fence about the whole myspace thing: on one hand I think it would be cool to have a place to put some of my MP3s, and where I could send people who might be interested in auditioning me, but on the other hand I might be too old ... I haven't seen a profile by anyone over 30 yet!

Send the hotties a “Friend Request”. Believe me, they’ll add you. The folks posting sexy pictures of themselves collect as many friends as they possibly can.
Personally, I never approve any “Friend Requests” from anyone who is obviously just trying to get as many names on their page as possible. I use it a lot for networking so I like the “Friends” page to be a postive reflection of me.

See my above comment. Yeah, I think a lot of the “sexy pics” types have some idea that having thousands of people on their “Friends” page represents some kind of fame.
But there are people on the site for all kinds of reasons. I don’t mind that some just want to share and/or collect sexually explicit photos ‘cause it doesn’t hinder my use of the site for my own purposes.

If you approve someone’s “Friend” request then that person changes their avatar to something you don’t want displayed on your page, go to the “Edit Friends” option on your main page. This gives you the option to delete them. You can also delete any comments any of your “Friends” posts to your page.

Ditto. I’m very involved in the music scene in L.A. With just a few exceptions, all of the musicians on my “Friends” page are personal friends of mine. We all love it. It’s a great promo tool- you can post your tunes, your website, and your gigs- and it’s also really great for networking and getting to know other artists.
If you’re an active performer I strongly recommend MySpace for these purposes.
NAF1138, you didn’t tell us your MySpace page. Send me a “Friend” request and check out some of the musicians on my page. Accompany the request with a message that has SDMB in the subject.

Might I suggest that if "SDMB" or something similar is not one of your interests, send a messge when trying to add a fellow Doper? I'm trying not to add completely random people, so if I don't recognize you as a FOAF or a Doper or something like that, I'd probably deny yhr efriend request.

Or maybe it's just me.

You know I didn't even realize that I hadn't linked to my page. It is a little skimpy and a little neglected, here I am. Happy to add all you to my very little community. I try to keep my friends list to only people that I actually know and talk to on a regular basis, but I spend enough time reading the SDMB that I think you all quaify.

Yes, I'm a little bored these days.

Any friend requests will come from my personal profile; I'd like to keep the music profile "clean," except for other musicians (bienville, I'll be sending a request your way one of these days!). Likewise, if you'd like to send me a friend request, please be sure to do so at /misnomer71. I have no friends right now -- --, but when I get some more time today to play with my profiles I'll start bugging y'all.

Go here. It's my profile - on the left about halfway down, there is a link that says "View All Colin's Groups". Click on that and it's the first one.

Subject line? I just submitted requests to join the SDMB group and add bienville as a friend, and neither time did I see a subject line ... just a dialog saying "are you sure you want to do this?" Is there a way to send a friend request other than clicking on someone's "Add to Friends" link that gets me a subject line?

When you click "Add to Friends" it just sends a "Friend" request to the user with just a link to your page.

Best way to do it is to click "Add to Friends" then go back to the main profile and click "Send Message", from there you can write a message which allows a Subject line.

I actually almost wrote you off as a "random" person 'cause you didn't let me know who you were. But, because you didn't have an overflowing "Friends" page I figured you weren't a non-discriminating "Friend" collecter. I guessed that you might be SDMB so I added you after I found you on the Group page. Took a little bit more work on my part and might have accidentally deleted you.

When I did my first big sweep to gather Dopers I wrote out a generic "I'm bienville from the SDMB" message, then just pasted it into the message box for all Dopers I had sent "Friend" requests to.

Glad you found me though! I'll listen to your tunes soon!

I truly was very bored the day I set it up, and when I got a message from some random guy yesterday I realized that other people are going to see it and try to contact me (besides friends, family, and SDMB folks)! For that reason, it felt too much like an online dating profile -- and I already have one of those. So I deleted that account, and will focus on the music page that I set up initially.
