So, last night I’m holding my rat girl Bettina, and she’s riding around on my shoulders having a great old time. Suddenly she stops just beside my ear, and I hear the tiniest, teeniest little:
fwop
I thought at first it was her tummy growling, then the smell hit me. Did you know rat farts smell just like people farts? Well, they do.
Awww… she’s cute!
Yet another one of those bits of knowledge you don’t get anywhere else but here at SDMB-land.
FWIW, cat farts are every bit as oppressive as rats and people.
Quality, not quantity…
Cheese gives me gas too.
Hmm, I have been giving her more cheese than usual lately… :dubious:
Their diet is so close to ours, and they’ve “co-evolved” with us for so long, it kinda makes sense.
Give the little stinker my love!

Thanks! She has a real sweet personality to match. Whenever I take her out to introduce her to someone I put the collar in the photo on her. There’s been a couple reactions that have been like: “Ewww! You’ve got a ra- ohhhhh, look she’s wearing a little collar! Oh it’s so tiny! Oh and she’s licking your hand just like a little dog! She is cute!”
I don’t think I’ve been around my cat when she’s farted. Although, she has churned out some turds that make the air so thick you can almost see it.
She is ADORABLE !!! Love the little collar !
Can’t say as I have known a rat fart before, but dog farts … I got 'em.
Fellow rat lover! I have a few of those too

Yes, they’re stinky critters. But loveable
People do tend to regard rats as filthy disease ridden little rodents that hunger for human flesh, which is sad because rats make better companions than dogs or cats sometimes. When I was in highschool I used to take my rats to school with me and let them have lunch food and sit on my desk or in my sweater. People thought it was the coolest thing in the world. Cept that one girl in the lunch room who cried…
Does Bettina have a wheel? We have 3 sharing one wheel, and every day we have to put more corn oil on it to keep the squeak quiet. Do you know of any alternate or longer lasting solutions?
Cute rattie, where did you get the collar? How did you get her to keep it on?

I would just like to add: GREAT Thread title!
I can’t view the pics, it called me a wanker sob
I don’t have a wheel, but I do have a big ball. The same idea as a hamster ball but about the size of a basketball. Bettina loves to tear up and down the hall in it, but I have to keep my eye on her b/c she tends to get stuck in corners and just waits patiently for me to get her unstuck instead of making noise. The collar I just got from PetSmart, she’s very good about keeping it on and will hold still for me to put it on and take it off. I’ve tried harnesses before, but she kept pushing them off. For some reason she doesn’t mind the collar, though.
Thanks! Probably could be a band name too…
