Going to RPI, as I do, I sometimes forget that that which is required reading material (so to speak) on campus is unknown to the rest of the world. I have watched this animation no less than Jesus-kabillion times, and I have probably 2 copies of it saved on my hard drive.
No, those were not real commercials in any way, shape or form. There is no Family Learning Channel, nor is there a Johnson & Mills Corporation. The entire thing is a brilliantly self-reflexive comedic masterpiece by animator Don Hertzfeldt, second only to (IMO), the introduction, intermission, and conclusion he produced (in much the same style, only with more robots) for the Animation Show.
Instant classic.
And now, angry ticks fire out of my nipples.
