What one hour of the day, on what day, could we expect to find you here?

As one whose Dope schedule is pretty much daytime, pretty much every day of the week, I have observed that some Dopers have one of these schedules:

1) strictly "from work" during business hours
2) strictly "at night" after business/school hours
3) weekends only
4) work week only
5) totally random and unpredictable

Whatever Option 6 (and up) may be I have yet to determine.

So I'm asking. Using either GMT or your own time zone as a reference (please specify), what time and day in the typical week is it most likely that you would be at least browsing the threads here, if not posting as well?

I would love to see whatever statistical chart has been constructed that would show:

1) Hot Time -- hours of the week that have heaviest login activity
2) Hot Space -- what area of the globe is most active at a given hour
3) Hot Membership category -- which posters are most active among Members, Charter Members, Moderators, Guests, Other

I am like The day Of The Lord. You never know when (or even if) I'm gonna be around, but when I am...

The Moon will be as blood, the Sun will darken, the seas will give up those dead in them, and the Great Dragon will be chained and abyssed.

what the hell was that about?

My computer at home is always on, and Netscape is always open, so I'm always logged in. Even if I'm not reading the boards, it looks like I'm always here. I look at the fora from the time I get up until I go to work, and then log in from work and read periodically through the day. Then again at home until I go to bed. I do all kinds of stuff in the meantime; the Dope is not the only thing I do with a computer! If you were trying to get my attention, you could post something and I would see it before long.

I'm a Cat1 poster - the most likely for me would be between 4:00pm and 5:00pm (PST) on a Thursday. I never have any "real" work to do on Thursday afternoons.

Number 5 - random and unpredictable. I'm a housewife with insomnia. I come and go as I please.

That said, like fishbicycle, I'm logged in pretty much all the time, so it probably appears as though I am here, even when I'm not.

I'm usually on from work. I'll still browse from time to time when I'm at home too, though, but I seem to have the best opportunity to do so at work.

I used to be on at home all the time. Now that I'm working a lot I'm on at work, and don't find I have the time to even be on the computer much at home, which is a drag, because I have a lot of projects backing up there.

I'm usually on the boards between about 6:15 PM - 7:15 PM Central time Monday - Thursday. This is right after I get home from work, but typically before my husband gets home and unwinds. Of course, I sometimes work overtime, which'll skew this a bit.

I get home from work around 10 pm (EST) so I usually post at night.

Lesse...

Over breakfast.
All day while at work.
An hour or so before bed.

So, yeah...just about all day long, from 9am to 1am.

Totally random. I post from work between classes, I post when I get home, weekday, weekend, it doesn't matter. But you can generally bet that I will be online and logged onto the Dope around 5pm Pacific any given day.

I thought that 'this member is on/offline' colour button thing (high technical jargon term) only indicted when a member was actually perusing the board. I have no way of checking this, of course, because I can't be in two places at one, try as I might. If my computer is on but I am elsewhere in cyberspace, does that green light thingy show me as being here?

Anyhow, to answer the question: I turn on the computer at about six in the morning and it stays on until around midnight. I try to avoid visiting the Dope for the first time in a new day until I know I have at least two hours free because of the huge number of messages which will have been posted while I was sleeping. And getting timed out and all the posts appearing as 'read' is a pain in the bum.

I return to the Dope periodically throughout the day, but there's no real pattern.

Evenings when I'm home, mostly. I can't imagine having enough time in my work day to be here.

If your browser is open and you are logged into the Dope, your green light is on. Even if you're not home but you left your computer on and browser open and were logged in, you appear as online. The light only goes out when you log out.

Yep, I just checked, using my husband's computer. Even when I shut down my browser, and turned my computer off - because I left myself logged into the Dope, it appeared as though I was online.

Pity. And there was I getting all cameraderie-ish about other Dopers being here at the same time as me when all the time they're probably off at work or returning their library books or something.

Yeah, if you never hit the "Log Out" button, but do as Anastaseon did, you'll still appear as online. That way, when you turn your computer back on and go to your SDMB bookmark, the page just opens up without giving you a login dialogue, and the top of the page says "Welcome, fishbicycle. You last visited Yesterday at 6:44 PM" or somesuch.

Boy, I hope that doesn't place a burden on the hamsters!

Why do you need to know when I'll be here? Are you watching me?

As an unemployed IT geek who keeps silly and widely varying vampire-like hours you can expect to see me anytime. The most common however is probably in the late evening-wee hours on school nights. Say 10PM - 5AM Sunday thru Thursday. The weekends are when I do my irresponsible drinking so the Dope gets ignored.

On weeknights, I'm here from roughly 1 AM to 5 AM Central Time.

On weekends, I could be here almost anytime. Usually between the hours of 1 AM and Noon, because I have to sleep eventually or I get weird(er).

I have cable internet so it may show me logged on at all times but I usually only get to surf the boards between 6am-7am. After that I'm off to work and after work my kid usually monopolizes the pc (at least during the winter months).

On weekends that I'm off I could be found here at any random time though.

As I tried to say in the OP, it's just that I have noticed certain patterns of posting by some specific people and wondered to what degree people feel that have some sort of "regular schedule" at The Dope. Even if I knew how to "watch you" I doubt I would have the time to, Feydeau, even though I have enjoyed reading your posts.

Now and then -- when something exceptional is said or alluded to -- I will look at a Doper's profile to check for other posts or threads he or she may have been involved in, but I don't regard that as "watching you" as such.

I am not a government spy, if that's what might be behind your question.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm always logged in, but I surf sporadically in the late afternoon/evening. If I have time before work in the morning, I'll jump in. Weekends are wildly random, though.

I see my ineffective attempt at humor was, well, ineffective.

I shoulda used more smilies. I'm not altogether paranoid, much.

And when I'm here depends on my client load. F'rinstance, today, I had a cancellation, so I've got the whole day off now (of course, I should be doing other things, but I'm here. Go figure.)

But I'm normally here late at night, every night -- oh, say, between 10pm and 1am Pacific.

Thanks for the details.

I was pretty sure you were funning me, but just to be safe I assumed you were serious. I have similar problems with my "humor" at times. I waver on using the "help" symbols. Without them it's pretty difficult to tell where the sarcasm drops off and the sincerity begins.
