I’ve got Estragon and Vladimir. Can anyone help me out here?
There ain’t 100.
I remember Lucky and Ponzo as well though, off the top of my head
I think Godot is mentioned indirectly… but I think he still counts.
Don’t forget the Tree.
Although joke threads are not strictly allowed here, I was thinking of doing something along these lines . . .
Surely the audience must count, so:
3rd row, seat 5, guy in the red tie.
Wow! I thought of this exact thread idea a few hours ago. Shit, I should’ve started it.
And there is one other character: The Boy.
And the possibilities of who that character is are kinda infinite, in a sense.
So, lessee, we got infinity plus about 5…
c’mon people, work with me here…
I actually got as far as “new post” → “100 ‘Waiting for Godot’ Characters,” and then I stared blankly at the text entry box for a minute and pressed the back button.
Weird.
Just wanted to point out that at this exact moment the top 3 threads in this forum are:
- 100 Krazy Kat Kharacters
- 100 Hobbit / Lord of the Rings characters
- 100 Waiting for Godot characters
That is all.
jjimm - You are a smartass after my own heart! Nice one!
I don’t think Godot counts. Many characters are referenced obliquely from all sorts of literary works, but not included as characters (in terms of these threads, IMO, anyway).
I keep thinking it’s Tuesday.
Oh, thanks a lot for spoiling it for me! I haven’t got to the ending yet. Are you telling me that Godot never actually arrives?
Well, there was the cute orphan boy Didi and Gogo save from the well who goes on to fight Pozzo in the exciting conclusion to Waiting for Godot II: Electric Nothingness.
There are two boys, one in act 1 and one in act 2. At least, they say they’re different people; the second one claims that the first is his brother.
Do the people who beat Estragon count?
Is there clear evidence that they exist?
Just had to share my friend’s winning entry in ‘The World’s Shortest Play’ contest we had over in rec.arts.theater.musicals a while back.
ACT I
Scene I
Enter GODOT.
CURTAIN
Well, “The Boy” is always played by just one actor, but he’s not supposed to be the same character each time. It’s supposed to be “The Boy” in the first appearance, and his brother in the other.
Don’t forget Inspector Doppler! Oh…wait a minute. That was Sleuth. Never mind.
It’s typical, you wait all day for a Godot, then two of them turn up at the same time.
