Show me some pictures of your home town!

Here's a few pictures from my home town. This is not my property, rather a rocky cove at the end of my street. I took a few pics this morning before coming to work. I also uploaded a few pics of the same cove that I took back in February. The body of water that figures prominently is the Atlantic Ocean.

Here's the link. Enjoy!

Pictures of the church in my home town. Damn, I'm getting homesick just looking at them. I moved there when I was 2, in 1979, and my parents only moved out of there last year. I still haven't grasped that the house I grew up in isn't ours anymore.

Panama City

I live just to the left of the tallest building in the center of the picture.

My building is just to the right of the two tall buildings in the center of the picture.

Yeah, I can vouch for Ipswich usually looking a lot better than that. Vinwood Catering (in Ipswich) catered my wedding.

Hey, no, I hadn't. Not being a native (I grew up in Melrose), I hadn't heard of it. Is it upstream or downstream of County Street? I'll have to go check it out, when the latest bout of monsoons is over and the river level drops. Is it hard to find? Should I fortify myself with a bagful of provisions from Marty's Donut Shop?

Ah, it's on Meetinghouse Green, not down by the river, as Googling has revealed. I'll look for it today when I drive up Town Hill on the detour south out of town.

My town, Live. If I walk out of my house and down to the road, you could see me on camera 1. If I walk out of my coffeehouse and out to the road, you could see me on camera 3.

Might take a bit of hunting around, but I understand they've either circled it in green or something. Really, no more than a few minutes to find it, though.

Here are some cool old B&W photos of Glens Falls and my surrounding area. Most of the buildings shown still exist and have been restored. The last picture is of Coopers Cave, it's under the bridge I cross to go to work each day.

Nothing really special about the town, it's all about the location. Rocky Mountains are just to the west, without traffic it takes 15 minutes to get to the foothills.

My hometown is spiffy. That is, if you like strip malls, car dealerships, modern hotels, and other anonymous brick buildings. (Actually, that last one is a vasectomy clinic!) For those wanting faux-historic, there's the new Metra station, which is just across the way from the federally mandated dive bar and the best steak house in the south suburbs.

Now I'm in Chicago. You all think you know what that looks like, but you're probably thinking of The Loop, which is not where I live. Where I live looks more like this and this, with the occasional cool building like this thrown in.

Typical nondescript East Anglian church

View from the church

It's not the most spectacularly-pretty village around here.

This ninetheeth-century piece of hardware is what my hometown, the City of Peterborough, is perhaps best known for.

I hate you, I hate you, I hate you. Augh... I still see them when I close my eyes! I'll never be able to fall asleep tonight.

I don't have any of the house itself or the "town" I live in, but here are two pictures of the horse pasture;

http://paintedover.com/uploads/show....dmouth_028.jpg

And a bonus one of me being an idiot on the trampoline;

The area I live in is really beautiful though. I need to take a few pictures of it sometime.

I'm sure you've all seen the standard Cleveland photos, but here are some collections that I've personally taken around town:

University Circle during "Parade the Circle"

Burke Lakefront Airport during the Cleveland National Airshow

Some assorted photos taken around the city

Early Springtime from a beach around the corner from my house in Euclid, OH

More Airshow photos at Burke Lakefront

The same beach as before, but during late summer

Euclid, OH at night

Photos from "The Flats"

More lake photos

One of my favorite Cleveland locations - The West Side Market

One of my favorite neighborhoods - E. 185th St.

Cleveland lakefront during the Tall Ships festival

Set featuring the Cleveland Botanical Gardens

Aaaand... I doubt anyone is still looking, but if you are - a bonus:

These sets are from a personal project of mine where I took modern-day photos around the city from the same location as historical ones:

Set 1

Set 2

Set 3

Set 4

Set 5

Set 6

Set 7

Set 8

The building you see in the background with the two trees in front of it here

is actually this building here where I rented out the entire top flat for 5 years with a realestate office and beauty salon below.
The balcony (my balcony) ran the entire length of the building and overlooked the ocean.

It's located in Ormond Beach, FLA on A1A.

This here link is my hometown from above - and you have no idea how beautiful it is at night. I wish I could get one good shot in of it.

That's Lake Tahoe looming above us. It's quite pretty, but vaguely threatening.

They started designing it in 1896. And culturally-the nineteenth century lasted until the First World War anyways.

Ames, Iowa, then and now (à la James Lileks)

Main Street in 1928, with no street lights, but two talking picture theaters. Here it is today, largely converted from retail to services, like banks and restaurants.

Campustown, the university business district, in 1941. The Varsity Theater is the only one of these businesses still operating. Iowa State College is now a University, and of course, no longer makes its own ice cream.

Beardshear Hall, ISU's administration building today.
Here it is in 1937.

The Campanile, symbol of ISU, in 1910 as a ten-bell chime tower. Today it houses a full carillon of 50 bells.

Bob's Tip-Top Restaurant, Lincoln Way east of S. Duff, early '50s. Still there, minus the "restaurant" signs. Now a semi-crummy bar that serves chili at lunchtimes.

Looking up Welch Street, probably about 1900. Reverse angle, a century later.

Chicago & North Western Depot, Main Street, 1910. Here it is today, minus the flowers and the C&NW. Last passenger service came through in 1962; the freights don't stop.

The blizzard of New Year's Day, 1942. Since all weather reports were cancelled due to the war, no one knew it was coming.

The tornado of November 12, 2005.

The Square Deal Oil Co., Duff near Fifth. Birthplace in 1932 of Gasohol, the first ethanol-blend gasoline. Now a parking lot.

Skyline-wise, it's mostly absorbed by downtown St. Louis, which isn't that far away. It's next to Ladue, if that's helpful. This may also help pinpoint it for you.

Here is the site of the unfortunate incident that put my small town on the map and captured the attention of the entire nation for a few days in late March of 1979.

And here is a more pleasant picture. I've ridden that train before. Kind of a touristy thing, but a scenic ride, nonetheless.
