Elise = Elizabeth, Alice?

I realize that Für Elise was probably not composed for anyone named Elise, but in Germany, is Elise a fairly common given name? And if so, is its English equivalent Elizabeth or Alice? Or neither?

According to BehindtheName.com, Elise is a diminuitive of Elizabeth, and the German form of Elizabeth is.... Elisabeth. Alice comes from Adelaide.
