How to ask for coding fixes if no red trianble appears?

I’d like the coding fixed on this post, but since there are no red triangles int the corner (as the FAQ talks about), I don’t know how to request coding fixes. How should I do this?

You can’t report your own post, as you’ve found out. What you can do is report the post above or below yours, and make clear that it is your post you need fixed.

What he said.

I’m afraid that doesn’t help in the least. I was well aware that I couldn’t report my own post from reading the FAQ. However, the FAQ also says that the only way to report any post is to use the red triangles. Kindly re-read my OP. It asks how to report any post when there are no red triangles present, which there usually aren’t (at least for me).

May I request another try at an answer?

The answer they gave is right, just your understanding was off.

Yes, there won’t be a triangle on any of your posts, but there are on everyone elses. Just hit the red triangle on someone else’s post that is just above or below yours and write in the report what you want.

Posts each have a number (like yours is number 4) so you could include that as well if you think it would be unclear which of your posts you mean.

You’re not seeing any red triangles on any posts at all? OK. Dunno how that’s happening.

How about numbers? Do you see numbers like the ones Sage Rat referred to? Click on that - it will open a new window with just that post in it, and, handily enough, a URL for just that post. Paste that into an email to any random mod.

I’ve had that happen (no triangles) but it was only temporary.

I guess that after two times trying, I still haven’t made myself clear. Very often (and in that thread in particular) THERE WERE NO RED TRIANGLES ANYWHERE IN THE THREAD! Not in my posts and not in anyone else’s.

Therefore I couldn’t ask for help with my coding in that post by clicking on the red triangle of the post before or after because there were NO red triangles anywhere.

Perhaps I should have asked: “Why don’t I see ANY red triangles in many if not most threads ANYWHERE?” in addition to asking: “How to ask for coding fixes if no red triangle appears?” But I did emphasize that I’d read the FAQ and knew I was supposed to click on a red triangle on the post above or below mine.
Can you help me with both questions?

Exactly!

That would be a hassle since my email system can’t be set up easily to do that. I’d much prefer some help in resolving the issue of why I don’t see red triangles in many threads. For the record, I see them fine in this thread.

Shit! I DID see all the red triangles in this thread at first, but now they’re gone again!

WTF?

Maybe you’re red-green colorblind.

I had this same problem once…
and then I realized I wasn’t logged in at the time.

Not sure if that happened here, though.

/S

Shadez got it in one.

If you’re not logged in, you can’t report a post.

ambushed, is your computer logging you out?

Perhaps you should consider keeping a link available:

No. It’s never logged me out.

From all appearances it seems to be a board bug, since the problem comes and goes. One thing though: it seems to happen more often on secondary copies of thread windows. For example, I usually reply to posts by right-clicking the “reply” button and opening a new window so I don’t lose my place in the original window. This seems to have something to do with triggering the bug I suspect exists in the board software.

Thank you, TubaDiva, that page is very useful. I’d never seen it before.

A question, though: is there anyone from the SDMB who oversees technical matters relating to the board software? Perhaps there’s a bug fix available for the problem I’m seeing. If not, this issue should probably be reported to the vendor.

If you right-click on the “post reply” button and a new window opens, then you will indeed not see any triangles, or posts numbers, or the member-status of a poster, or how many posts they have or when they joined. That’s what happens to everyone here, even me as a moderator.

Samclem is correct; the display is in a shortened form when you go through the “hit reply” screen.

This is not a bug. It’s just how vB chooses to display in the reply screen. You’ll have to do your reporting from a full screen to see triangles, etc.

I’m sorry, I guess I didn’t make myself sufficiently clear. I didn’t mean to suggest that the problem I’m seeing was in the “post reply” window itself; I was well aware that that window lacks all the items you’ve specified.

No, what happens is that after typing my reply and hitting “Submit Reply”, the new (or the new new) window after the refresh lacks all red triangles. Not only that, but somehow the lack of red triangles propogates to the original window upon refresh or upon moving to a new page in the thread!

As a software developer myself, it has all the hallmarks of a bug.
