The Wire, 12/3

I haven’t seen the latest episode yet (I have the on demand channel, but I just prefer to make Sunday my special The Wire viewing night), so please don’t spoil anything until after 11 pm EST.

But I thought I’d mention that, according to The Washington Post, the outgoing governor of Maryland, Robert Ehrlich, plays a Maryland state trooper in the office of the fictional governor in this show. They’ve done this before: former Baltimore mayor Kurt Schmoke played an adviser who warned Mayor Royce against allowing the Hampsterdam experiment to continue, saying he’d be labeled “the most dangerous man in America.” This is exactly what Schmoke was called when he proposed decriminalizing drugs and implementing harm reduction policies, just like Hampsterdam.

The Post says that Ehrlich is a big fan of the show, and that current Baltimore mayor Martin O’Malley, who will be replacing Ehrlich in the state house in January, was also offered a cameo role, but turned it down.

I’ll be back after 11 or sometime tomorrow.
