Moderating the Boards

This is from the Straight Dope Message Board moderators. Frankly, there's tons of stuff out there, and we don't have the time or inclination to read every post, or even to open every question.

We are all together in saying that: if you see anything on any of the Message Boards that you find inappropriate, in need of deletion or censoring or whatever, please let us know. There's too much stuff going on for us to watch everywhere, and we appreciate the additional eyes.

Of course, we may disagree with your conclusion, but we would appreciate your help in locating offensive posts in a timely manner.

Also, If you are experiencing any technical problems with accessing or otherwise using the board (or anything else on the Straight Dope site, for that matter), please contact any of the board moderators as soon as possible. Sometimes we can talk you through solutions to your problems. Sometimes the problem is on OUR end . . . and we don't find it until you alert us to the situation. Hey Dex......... I don't have enough time to read all I want too and I can read fairly fast........ won't talk about my typing speed....... Do I need to be moderated? <-- 3½¢

There ain't nothin' "moderate" about you, you freako-biker extremist, you. Get back under the table.

I was just wondering if there was a need to keep threads that haven't been touched in thirty days or more? Maybe some streamlining would help speed up loading.

I just set my prefs to select only the last two days. (If I'm gone over a weekend, I may change that to 5 days.)

I have no problem removing ancient posts--as long as they placed in a retrievable archive. I just know that we're going to want to go back and review some of these posts when the subjects reappear in a while.
