Special Gene Wolfe Issue of F&SF

Those Gene Wolfe lovers who revealed themselves in this recent thread will want to know that the April issue of The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction (known to one and all as F&SF) is a special Gene Wolfe issue.

Wolfe himself contributes a new novella, “Memorare,” and Neil Gaiman, Michael Swanwick, and Michael Andre-Driussi all do essays.

F&SF has a long tradition of these special issues honoring a particular writer, with some classic stories coming out of them. Most Borders and Barnes & Nobles carry F&SF. You’d know better than me what smaller stores in your area are likely to have it.

I received my subscriber’s copy in the mail today, so I don’t know whether it’s in stores yet.

When will someone publish a collection of Wolfe’s short fiction? There’s enough, isn’t there?

I’d love to see something like what was done with George R. R. Martin, the RRetrospective.

He’s had 210 stories, so that’s more than enough. But I’m not sure exactly what you’re looking for. He’s had 12 short story collections published.

The Island of Doctor Death and Other Stories and Other Stories (1980)
Gene Wolfe’s Book of Days (1981)
The Wolfe Archipelago (1983)
Plan(e)t Engineering (1984)
Bibliomen (1984)
Storeys from the Old Hotel (1988) [winner of the World Fantasy Award for best collection]
Endangered Species (1989)
Castle of Days (1992)
The Young Wolfe (1992)
Strange Travelers (2000)
Innocents Aboard (2004)
Starwater Strains (2005)

Damn. I had no idea. 210 stories would be too much for one book, I guess.

ETA Thanks for the list.
