"Whoops" could have suggested a few things:

1) War whoops as in Westerns
2) Whips as pronounced by certain rural types
3) The universal sound of joy along the lines of "Yippee"
4) Basketball
5) a substitute for the universal sound for "uh oh"

But I will confess not getting much of a charge from any of them at this time.

Just idle curiosity.
