Doper Baby Update!

Well, Mrs. Small and I went to the doctor, and our little child is actually a baby boy. We found out at about 9:45 this morning, they said he is 1 lb and 1 oz. The heartbeat was amazingly steady (which is good since Mrs. Small has a heart condition and we worried about it being passed along)...

There are a couple pictures online, but I'll have to add them to the thread later if it lasts very long, mostly because I can't find them right now.

I know there are other dopers who are getting ready for little bundles of joy - Mouse_Maven, I'm looking your direction - but serious, let me know. I remember there being a few other "me too's" in the pregnancy/baby threads, so how are the future dopers doing?

That's great news! Is this your first boy?

I'm about 15 weeks along. Morning sickness has past - YEAH! Still moody as hell. The at my last OB visit, the heart beat was strong, and I'm very grateful for that. It feels like every part of me is gettig bigger: my chest, my stomach, my butt

So far, pregnancy isn't so bad. The work and family issues have me stressed, but that's a constant thing. (People from dysfunctional families should not go into academics - they're even more fucked up.)

It appears we're having a boy, too! (Though they couldn't get the clearest shot.) The ultrasound was so cool -- we could see all four chambers of his heart beating!

I'm 19 weeks, and can't feel the baby move yet. I'm not really showing -- I can't button my pants anymore, but I don't need to wear maternity clothes, either (they are comfy, though!).

After Easter, we're going to start working on preparing the baby's room -- right now, there's a lot of crap in there that is going to have to find another home (or at least a better-organized one!). And we need to start signing up for classes like birthing, parenting, and infant CPR. Yikes! So much still to do!

Amazing, isn't it? I'm torn between "This will take forever!" and "OMG! We don't have enough time!"

I hope all goes well for you.

Oh, you silly Mouse_Maven - this is my first boy. Also, it's my first child altogether. I'm only 20, ya know.

Congratulations, stargazer. Also, I know it feels like there is a ton to do, but it's not that bad. Now that we found out what we are having, we're starting on the baby's room, but the landlord asked us not to paint because our house was professionally painted right before we moved in. Of course, we also looked at buying, but we won't be in this area much longer after I finish up college.

[slight hijack of my own thread]Mouse_Maven, any updates on finishing college or such? I've been so out of it for a long time.[/hijack]

I am in my 34th week. With just six weeks to go, everything has gone into slow motion. I keep losing weight, 7 lbs over the last two weeks. I hope the doctor ups my insulin again so I can eat more. I am now getting hungry most of the time. Everything is well with the baby.

I am having a boy too. His name is David, after my father.

Sorry. For some reason I thought you had at least one other child.

*sigh* I'm still trying to figure that out. Things at work have been bad: Dr. Boss lost his NIH grant, internal politcs, etc. Academic research doesn't look like a good place to be anymore, so I'm trying to see what other career options there are. Mouse_Spouse would like me to transfer to the University's main campus and complete my biology BS there. (We live close to CU Boulder. I work at their research campus waaaaay east and took classes at the Denver campus.) I am also looking at a Clinical Laboratory Science program. We'll see.

Well, good luck in whichever you choose. I know I only have a few quarters/semesters left and I'm counting down the days. But my luck has run out, we are changing from quarters to semesters this summer so I will have to probably take the summer off. I may be here just a little longer.

lee - congratulations. I enjoy the name David. We have actually picked out the name Dylan Riley so far. It sounds nice and Ray and Lee added together are somewhat Riley, to honor family middle names on both sides.

Mrs. Small is already mentioning "well, when the second one comes along" - it's never ending...

Am I the only one who is noticing that things are very......... boy-ish around this thread ?

Think Cecil is influencing gender? If our Perfect Master was a Perfect Mistress, you'd all be having girls !!!
